The Gospel Confession Thumbs up apple cross scales You have a confession that needs to be made today and that confession is that you have been mastered/ conquered by Jesus Christ the King. Invictus: Unconquered- TImothy McVay (1995)- by WIlliam Ernest Henley 1875 Out of the night that covers me,/ Black as the Pit from pole to pole,/ I thank whatever gods may be/ For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance/ I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance/ My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath & tears/ Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years/ Finds, and shall find, me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate,/ How charged with punishments the scroll./ I am the master of my fate:/ I am the captain of my soul. YOU need to be mastered, conquered, captained by the gracious king of Glory. Today in Rev.5 we will see some confessions made about Jesus and my prayer is that they will the confession you make today, not just black words on white pages. \PRAYER Jesus is at the center of the throne room of Heaven. See the contrast between the conquering lion of verse 5 and the slain lamb of verse 6. Which is it? In God’s sovereignty it is both. horn: verility/ power/ strength 7: fullness or completion Remember why John was weeping in verse 4? No one was worthy- had the weight/ authority, was capable. seraphim representatives of saints Have you ever felt like your prayers bounced off the ceiling? For the child of God, your prayers are heard and they are kept. Golden bowls were used in the temple at sacrifice. They held incense which was to be a pleasing aroma to the Lord as the sacrifice was consumed. Your N.T. prayers are the same as that pleasing aroma to the Lord. Axios: Worthy- JESUS IS CENTRAL/ JESUS IS WORTHY. Lev 17:11 & Heb. 9:22= without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. bought/ purchased/ slave trade/ redeemed 1 Cor. 6:20- bought with a price all people, all places, all time princes/ princesses: Sons and Duaghters of the King I have access to God the Father. 1 Peter 2:9 We will reign with him, because of him. Eph 2:9 6 And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. 7 And he went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who was seated on the throne. 8 And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 9 And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain/ , and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, 10 and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.” slaughtered/ butchered/ violent bloody 11 Then the largest of Greek numbers: 10,000 A number too big to count I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, WORTHY BY REDEMPTION with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!” 12 saying flash back to Rev4:11. Worthy of all I had, have, and will have. I cannot give to God more than he is worthy of. Bigger than Is45:23, Rom14:11, Phil2:10-11 every knee bow, tongue confess Somehow God will cause everything that created to make a confession. Every beast, bird, man, heavenly angel. My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord, and let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever. (Psalm 145:21, ESV) Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! (Psalm 150:6, ESV) vs. 12 may it be, this is true, right on CENTRAL TO ME, WORTHY TO ME, WORSHIPED BY ME? WORTHY BY CREATION I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” 13 And 14 And the four living creatures said, “Amen!” and the elders fell down and worshiped. (Revelation 5:6-14, ESV) Some at-risk people would rather stay put than be led to safety. That’s what helicopter pilot Ian McConnell and the rest of his air station crew discovered in the aftermath of Katrina. McConnell and his crew were told to keep five H-60 helicopters airborne on missions around the clock to airlift stranded people to the Super-dome. They were only able to help a few survivors. “On our first 3 missions; we saved the lives of 89 people, 3 dogs, and a cat,” McConnell said. “On the 4th mission, to our great frustration, we saved no one- but not for lack of trying. The dozens we attempted to rescue refused pickup! “Some people told us to bring them food and water. We told them, “You are living in unhealthy conditions, and the water will stay high for a long time, we warned them. Still they refused.” In truth they did not realize how desperate their situation was until it was too late. Your situation in sin is desperate. Don’t put off the savior today. Give your life to him. “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!” (Revelation 4:8) “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” (Revelation 4:11) “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, 10 and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.” (Revelation 5:9-10) “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!” (Revelation 5:12) “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” (Revelation 5:13) -AMEN (Revelation 5:14)
