Research Impact is a dominant theme within the UK research environment and is a significant driver for
informing the future direction, quality and success of organisations’ research portfolios. This Award
celebrates a research manager or research management team that has invented, innovated or transformed
the processes for supporting the translation of research into societal impact.
CRITERIA
In general, nominees will have demonstrated an exceptional positive contribution to the identification,
promotion and/or translation of research into impact and thus enhanced their organisation’s research
enterprise. Specifically, the nominees will have demonstrated one or more of the following attributes:

Implemented innovative approaches to identifying potential areas of impact, working successfully with
academic colleagues and potential external beneficiaries as the bridge for exploitation.
Developed and delivered sophisticated methods for supporting colleagues in understanding the wide
range of potential societal impacts and helping them embed translation into good research practice.
Contributed to capacity building by creating and implementing support mechanisms for sharing good
practice across their organisation and beyond, being recognised as a sector expert in impact-related
matters.
Devised and implemented innovative systems to enable collaboration across all relevant areas and
individuals, both within and outwith the organisation, thereby maximising the impacts from translating or
commercialising research.
Created practical and scalable methods for capture of impact-related objectives and evidence of
outcomes.
Enhanced the institution’s approach to communication and discussion of its research, to influence public
discourse.
NOMINATION GUIDELINES
The Awards will follow a simple 1-stage judging process, whereby nominations are invited, reviewed and
judged against the agreed criteria.

In no more than 1,000 words explain how the nominee(s) transformed the processes for supporting the
translation of research impact.
Outline the people involved, timescales, challenges and opportunities.
Judges will particularly look for techniques for translating impact that can be replicated and therefore
have potential wider benefits if adopted elsewhere.
Nominations are to be emailed directly to [email protected] using the nomination form.
The deadline for the submission of nominations is Friday 11 March at 5pm.
The Judging Panels will convene in March and April with finalists announced on Monday 18 April.
Winners will be announced at the ARMA Awards Dinner, hosted at the ARMA Annual Conference in
Birmingham on Tuesday 7 June.
