PRESS FEATURES
ELECTROPNEUMATICS presses are built in different designs: C-Frame, Ring Frame, Pillar and
Column/Straight-sided. All presses have certain distinct features that make them suitable for different metal
forming operations.
Fabricated Steel Construction
ELECTROPNEUMATICS press frames are rugged,
steel units of great strength and rigidity. The frame and
major structures are fabricated from prime steel,
thermally stress relieved and precision machined as
applicable. They are carefully designed to resist
deflection and provide superior vibration damping
qualities. The frame maintains alignment of the bearings
and the slide under operating load conditions, which is a
prerequisite for component accuracy and longer die life.
In Ring frame presses, the frame is built out of two
single plate profiles, which gives this press high rigidity
and deflection resistance. In Column/Straight-sided
presses and pillar presses, the tie rods are generously
proportioned to withstand the forming loads. Stretching
of the tie rods to preload the press frame to 150% load
tonnage is done using hydraulic nuts.
Press Slide Guiding
Accurate guiding of the press slide is essential for
component quality and long tool life. Well-designed and
long guiding lengths fully contain the slide during the
working cycle of the press stroke. Based on the type of
press and application requirements, different guiding
arrangements are provided. The slide bearings and
guides are well lubricated by a manual centeralised
lubrication system. Automatic lubrications provided on
large presses and on special request.
Cushion
The standard hydraulic cushion (reactive) can be
provided with any of our presses. They are designed to
operate as a blank holder during the pressing stroke and
subsequently as a component ejector during the press
return stroke. The cushion is designed for about 30% of
the main ram tonnage when in cushion mode. Presses
can also be provided with an active cushion , which aids
in the drawing process and leads to great savings in
cycle time and power.
Ejectors (optional)
In most cases, the cushion is used as an ejector, while
some presses not requiring a cushion, an ejector
cylinder is provided. Mechanical or hydraulic ejectors
(knockouts) can also be provided in the press slide for
stripping the part from the tool.
Shock Absorbers and Stroke
Limiters (optional)
Hydraulic shock absorbers are usually provided on
presses used for blanking and trimming, to absorb
pressure peaks that are generated when the punch
breaks through the metal. This reduces vibration and
noise, prevents tool damage and enhances press/tool
life.
Mechanical stoppers are provided as a safety feature to
limit the maximum stroke of the main ram after pressing,
to protect the tool from damage.
Hydraulic Drive System
The highly advanced hydraulic system is the driving force of the press. It provides the necessary forming force
and also control of slide, blank holder, cushion, ejector and other auxiliary functions. A further circuit caters to the
filtration and cooling of hydraulic oil (according to application). Depending on the operation requirements, variable
displacement pumps and proportional/servo control valves can also be used for optimum utilisation of drive power
and repeatable forming precision.
The hydraulic system is designed as a compact manifold style valve blocks, which require minimum piping.
Valves of reputed makes (featuring international connection standards) are used in all press power packs. High
quality indigenously made hydraulic cylinders with low friction PTFE seals ensure operation and long life of the
press.
Control System
Our
new
generation
programmable
controllers,
ELECTROPNEUMATICS “SMARTPLC/ SMARTCNC’ with
various levels of sophistication make changeover
sequences and process optimisation easy. A LCD flat panel
with touch screen (optional) and keyboard provides the
man-machine interface. Graphical display of control
information, indication of activation status of slide, cushion,
ejector and other functions like slide lock, quick die change
systems, safety guards, etc. and ease of usage make
operating even the most complicated machine a simple
task.
The blank holder, main slide and cushion strokes are
infinitely variable. Slide reversal is either by limit switch or
pressure switch sensing. The blank holder, main slide and
cushion pressures are individually controllable between 10100% of the tonnage through out the stroke. Individual
pressure control of the various blank holder cylinders (multipoint cushion) can be provided for drawing of complicated
and asymmetrical parts.
Safety and Monitoring Systems
Safety
is
an
inherent
feature
of
every
ELECTROPNEUMATICS press. Some of these features
are:

Two-hand safety operation with simultaneous control
facility in the control panel.
Photo-electric guards and mechanical guards protected
by limit switches (provided on request).
Hydraulic locking of the main slide and blank holder at
top dead centre to ensure safety when working in the
tooling area (available on request).
Several other hydraulic and electronic safety interlocks
to ensure proper sequencing of operations, to prevent
build-up of working pressure beyond operation
requirement and to ensure operator and tooling safety.
Pressure gauges for blank holder, main slide and
cushion for continuous display of operating pressures.
LED’s to indicate when the individual control valves
respond and provide information on possible fault
sources in relation and provide information in possible
fault sources in relation to the work cycle. Digital
displays (optional). Indicators and interlocks for system
malfunctioning such as filter clogging, low oil level, high
oil temperature, etc. for ease of trouble shooting.
Automation
Flexibility and efficiency in manufacturing is a basic
requirement today. Small and medium batch sizes
also have to be run economically. This means
frequent changeovers, often several times a day.
Limiting these changeover times to a few minutes
translates into significant cost advantages.
ELECTROPNEUMATICS
can
offer
press
automation solutions for new presses or as retrofit
on existing presses.
Quick die change (QDC) systems such as swing
out arms with roller strips, motorised moving
bolsters or die carts, bolster and die clamps, die
lifters, etc. can be provided with our presses.
Handling devices such as robots and pick
& place systems can also be made to work in
conjunction with the presses for loading/unloading
and inter-press transfer in press
lines.
C-FRAME PRESSES: BENCH AND FLOOR MODELS
TYPE
CSEB/CSE
Standard ELECTROPNEUMATICS C-Frame (gap frame) type presses are available in bench models in
capacities up to 10 tonnes and in floor models with capacities up to 300 tonnes. In addition to the standard range
ELECTROPNEUMATICS can custom build a press to include a wide variety of optional features to meet almost
any type of application requirement.
Our C-Frame presses have a study steel welded construction. A characteristic built into every
ELECTROPNEUMATICS press. The presses are engineered for minimum deflection of the frame (< 5 minutes).
These presses are compact with an inbuilt hydrauli8c power pack. They are fast, easy to setup and economical.
They can be use for a wide range of jobs, from single-cycle operations to automated production sequences. Fast
stroking versions are also available.

When open space and clear access to the press bolster is needed,
pillar presses are the best option. The large dimensioned tool spaces
and good accessibility from all sides simplify fitting of large tools and
assist in automation. The pillars are ground and hard chrome plated
to accurately guide the slide through bush bearings. In addition to
deep drawing applications, these presses are ideally suited for
compression-transfer moulding, rubber, FRP and DMC moulding,
stamping, forming, die spotting and other such applications. Pick &
place devices and quick die change system can be incorporated on
request. Capacities up to 1500 tonnes can be offered.

ELECTROPNEUMATICS four column and straight-sided presses have an impressively high level of performance
and operating profitability. They are optimized using the most modern design methods and manufacturing
techniques, and catered to suit the customers changing needs. These high performance presses are designed for
high off-center loads with heavy ram force, eight-point adjustable guiding arrangement, full surface drawing force
control. They are available in capacities up to 5000 tonnes and as single, double or triple action presses based on
the demanding nature of the forming task.
These presses are best suited for deep drawing applications where control of stroke lengths, speeds and
pressures of the main ram, blank holder and cushion are critical. In addition, they can also be used for
applications like blanking, trimming, punching, forming, etc. they are equipped with the most advanced hydroelectronic controls.
