Edventure Social & Emotional Learning Through Adventure self-awareness ~ common group norms ~ effective communication ~ problem solving teamwork ~ collaborative decision making ~ appropriate feedback ~ adaptive goal setting Since the late 1980’s, the Browne Center has offered experiential learning programs to groups of all ages. By challenging students in adventurous activities, they are fully engaged as they develop social-emotional skills in selfawareness, common group norms, effective communication, teamwork, collaborative decision making, problem solving, and more! Single activity days at our site provide your students with high impact experiences that can literally transform the classroom. To increase and deepen these educational outcomes, the Browne Center has developed Edventure, a developmentally sequenced year-long or modular program that helps integrate the benefits of adventure learning into your classroom. Students will develop: • Awareness of personal assets & strengths and how they contribute to group success • Appropriate expression of feelings, reactions, and ideas • Awareness of how their actions affect others • Positive attitudes towards themselves and others • Mastery of a structured model for decision-making & problem solving • Understanding of healthy ways of dealing with conflict and stress • A sense of community as they move towards a common goal as part of diverse team Our Services: Edventure is customizable & adaptable to your staff and student needs. Your program can include: programming at our cutting edge challenge course, staff development training with your teachers, and easy to use curricula for ongoing programming facilitated by your teaching staff. Program Design: Edventure is based on research by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), where the inclusion of social and emotional development programs in a school setting were found to positively affect academic achievement. Edventure programs meet NH & MA state standards and curriculum frameworks in Career Development (NH), Family & Consumer Science (NH), Physical Education (MA & NH), Health Education (MA & NH), and Social & Emotional Health (MA). “We switched from another outdoor education program to the UNH Browne Center, and it was the best move we could have made for our students and staff. Instead of a week-long ecology program, we now have a year-long program that teaches life skills in all subject areas. The UNH Browne Center staff has custom fit the program to meet our needs and we couldn't be happier.” - Austin Garofalo, Principal, Gilbert H.
