• When we know the original amount and the size or measure of one part, we use measurement division to find the number of parts. • You can tell when a question is asking for measurement division because it asks, "How many ____ are in ____?"
• Also, we will focus on extending our work involving division with fractions to choosing units and setting up a story situation. 12

Exercise 1: Change to this problem in your packet on page 23.
1) Decide on an interpretation measurement or partitive
2) Draw a model It should be neat and easy to read, but should not take too long to create. 3) Find the answer. 14

4) Choose a unit
For measurement division, both divisor and dividend must be the same unit.
If we use pounds, then we are asking how many 1/8 pounds are there in 1/2 pound.
5) Set up a situation
This means, write a story problem that is interesting, realistic, short, and clear that has all the information necessary to solve it. Carter has a total of 1/2 pounds of chocolate. He needs 1/8 pound of chocolate for each batch of brownies he bakes. How many batches of brownies can Carter bake with 1/2 pound of chocolate?
