The Yardstick Blood Drive Gives Back to Community July 2014 Henry Poor Lumber and Flooring Express held its annual “Roll Up Your Sleeve” Blood Drive in conjunction with their July cookout on July 25th. The Indiana Blood Center’s Bloodmobile was on site starting at 10 am and stayed until 2:30. Breyanna Turner organized the blood drive on the Henry Poor side by making all the arrangements and coordinating the schedules. In addition, Bre ya nna worked the phones and contacted a number of previous donors and encouraged them to attend. As a Breyanna result 23 donors took Turner part, making for a great day. H e n r y Poor gave out movie passes for all those who donated. The Indiana Blood Center supports over 60 hospitals in Indiana. Each donation can save up to three Hoosiers lives. Thanks again to all those who were able to contribute to this community endeavor. E ach year Henry Poor Lumber and Flooring Express look forward to the Builders Association of Greater Lafayette’s Parade of Homes. This event showcases the capabilities and home building options available from our local builders and contractors. The Parade is being held on two consecutive weekends, August 16-17 and August 23-24. On display will be 20 homes built by 10 different Henry Poor Lumber and Flooring Express work with many of the builders to provide kitchen and bath cabinets and countertops; carpeting, ceramic tile and wood flooring; and materials for decks. Not so visible, but just as important, Henry Poor Lumber also provides the lumber, trim, windows and doors for many of these homes, as well as siding and roofing materials. As Henry Poor’s Human Resource manager she takes care of all personnel matters for the 50 employees at Henry Poor Lumber and Flooring Express. Debbie started her career at the Eastway Plaza Home Work’s location in June 1989. She handled payables/receivables for Home Works for 12 years, before moving to Henry Poor Lumber where she was responsible for credit and collections. Today Debbie handles the HR responsibilities and oversees office equipment and maintenance. Over the years Debbie has also helped coordinate Jim And r e w ’ s schedule and been Debbie Davis his “go to” resource when he needs computer help. Debbie was and still is the glue that holds it all together. With the many activities I’m involved in, I couldn’t have done it without her. She has always been able to read my writing better than I could.” Debbie and her husband, Charlie, have two children and three grandchildren. With her son in the Air Force, Debbie has had a chance to visit Germany, Las Vegas and Alaska. Debbie is an avid quilter who made her first quilt for her granddaughter and serves as treasurer of the local Quilt Guild.
