Patron Requirements
1. E-Reader Agreement – acknowledges financial responsibility for lost or damaged equipment.
E-Reader Lending Service Information
1. Patrons wishing to check out a pre-loaded Kindle must read through, fill out, and sign the Foley
Library E-Reader Agreement first. In addition, patrons must read through the following
information concerning the E-Reader Program and the associated policies of the Foley Public
Library.
2. Procedure for selecting the device and the title to be loaded onto the device:
a. Patrons will need to call to schedule an appointment to have a title downloaded and
check out a device. This should be done after selecting a title from Camellia.net
collections and confirming availability of the selected title.
b. Once an appointment is secured, one of the library staff will initiate the download.
3. When you come to check out the E-Reader, you and (if you are under the age of 18) your parent
or legal guardian will be asked to complete the Foley Library E-Reader Agreement,
acknowledging financial responsibility for lost or damaged equipment. Patron or patron’s
guardian will be asked to show a current photo ID to validate against patron record.
Foley Library E-Reader Program Q & A
1. Who can borrow an e-reader?
a. Any Foley Public Library cardholder (over age 18) in good standing with at least three
months borrowing history can check out an e-reader. The check-out limit is one ereader per household at any one time. The Foley Library reserves the right to refuse
service to anyone who abuses equipment or is repeatedly late in returning e-readers.
2. Where do I check out the e-reader and where do I return it when done?
a. The e-reader can be picked up from the Circulation Desk and must be returned there as
well. The e-reader cannot be placed in the book drop due to the potential for damage.
When returned staff will conduct a visual check to ensure that the device and
accessories are returned in good condition. Please have sufficient battery charge on the
device when returning it so that it can be checked in properly.
3. How long can I keep my e-reader?
a. The check-out period for the Kindle is 14 days.
4. Can I renew my e-reader?
a. No, you cannot renew at this time.
5. May I add an item from my personal Amazon account to the Library’s device?
a. No, you may not add your own materials to the library’s e-reader.
6. What are the late return fines? (will check with Michele on this)
a. Fines are $5.00 per day, beginning on the second day overdue
7. Is there are cost to check out the Kindle?
a. The Library asks that patrons borrowing the Kindle place a $25.00 deposit on the item
that is returned after the Kindle has been successfully returned after the 14 day
checkout period.
8. What happens if I lose the Kindle?
a. The cardholder or cardholder’s guardian will be charged for any reader or accessory not
returned to the Circulation Desk or returned damaged.
9. What is available on the Foley Library e-reader?
a. Titles held in the Camellia.net collections. A staff member will assist in pre-loading the
title you would like on the device prior to check-out. Titles from these sources are
subject to availability as they are accessible to other library patrons.
