First Baptist Church Hobbs, New Mexico GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION: Investing in and providing spiritual leadership to High School and Middle School students in the Hobbs, New Mexico area. TITLE: Student Pastor (Grades 6th – 12th) MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY: First Baptist Church of Hobbs, NM is seeking a full-time Student Pastor who has a passion for young adults and wishes to spread the gospel to many un-churched students in the Hobbs, NM area. Hobbs is a community of 43,500 people. Eighty percent or more of the people living in the area are un-churched and know very little about the gospel of Jesus. This job opportunity is first and foremost a relational mission opportunity. Serving as the Student Pastor for FBC Hobbs you will have the strong support of the Senior Pastor and Staff, amazing youth facilities, and a willing attitude to support and encourage you as you seek to develop a premier student ministry. We are looking for someone who desires to build a legacy over the next 5-10 years with students before moving to other areas of ministry. Applicants with successful para-church leadership experiences are encouraged to apply (i.e Young Life, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Campus Crusade, etc.) The Senior Pastor while growing up was an un-churched student who never attended church. He came to faith as a result of a High School Young Life ministry and believes students should have fun while learning how to become a disciple of Jesus Christ. FBC Hobbs is a church which has seen a decline in student ministry over the past decade and seeks to reestablish a strong youth ministry in the Hobbs area. Currently, there are no churches in the area which have an overly successful youth ministry. With our resources, FBC Hobbs seeks to become the premier student ministry for the city. Our current student body consists of approximately 10-15 young adults which are led by a volunteer staff of 6 adults. The Student Pastor will be encouraged and given latitude to find ways to reach and minister to students. STARTING SALARY: Negotiable QUALIFICATIONS: The student pastor must be someone who values walking with God on a daily basis through regular interaction with God’s Word, prayer and obedience to the teachings of our Lord. He must meet the Biblical qualifications of a shepherd given in scripture (1 Timothy 3:1-7; 1 Peter 5:1-4). He must be someone who has a passion to serve Christ by investing in the lives of students (grades 6-12). He must have a Bachelor’s Degree and exhibit leadership skills suitable for youth ministry. MINISTRY DUTIES: The Student Pastor shall provide pastoral leadership in all areas of the Student Ministry at First Baptist Church. The responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the development, implementation and coordination of ministries and programs within the scope of the Middle School, Freshman High, and Senior High Student Ministry of First Baptist Church. He shall participate in the recruitment and training of volunteer teachers and leaders; be an active participant in student discipleship; maintain the proper coordination and working relationships with other church staff, lay people, and co-workers in the ministry and fulfill other necessary functions that would enable the Student Ministry to operate with efficiency and effectiveness. RESPONSIBILITIES: A. Development, Implementation, and Coordination of Student Ministries and Programs 1. Develop and oversee the overall Student Ministry of First Baptist Church. 2. Actively participate in the Student Bible Study program both in administration and a teaching capacity, as necessary. 3. Coordinate student activities that incorporate fellowship, foster spiritual growth, and actively encourage evangelism of all students, as well as student mission projects. 4. Actively participate in both the long-term and short-term planning of the Student Ministry of First Baptist Church. 5. Prepare and oversee the Student Ministry budget, keeping in mind the total church budget context. B. Recruitment and Training of Volunteer Student Ministry Teachers 1. Oversee the recruitment of volunteer Student Ministry teachers. 2. Choose and/or develop Student Ministry teaching materials and participate in Student Teachers training sessions. 3. Participate in the evaluation of Student Ministry teachers for the purpose of encouragement and direction. C. Student Ministry Discipleship 1. Actively participate in the discipleship of students in both one-on-one and in small groups. 2. Select the curriculum to be used in the Christian Education and Discipleship programs of the Student Ministry. 3. Encourage all of the Student Ministry teachers of First Baptist Church to participate in discipleship and actively participate in one-to-one and small group discipleship. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: The Student Minister is an ordained member of the Pastoral Staff. He is accountable to the Pastor, and the Personnel Ministry Team (and any others) as designated by the First Baptist Church’s Constitution and by-laws. A. Supervision of Ministry Personnel and Communications 1. Regularly report to the Pastoral Staff regarding goals and growth in the Middle School, Freshman High, Senior High ministries. 2. Work in conjunction with the other staff members and lay people in areas interrelating with their areas of ministry oversight. 3. Supervise volunteers as required for the execution of the Student ministry. 4. Oversee all Student areas of ministry including: a. Christian Education/Small groups (Sunday A.M. and P.M. and Wednesday night) b. Meetings c. Evangelism d. Discipleship e. Fellowship f. Retreats/Camps g. Mission Trips SPECIAL EVENTS IN STUDENT MINISTRY Plan and coordinate the following: a. b. c. d. e. Summer program activities. Student mission/service projects – local church and beyond. Active involvement in area, state and local conference events. Other outings Fundraisers as necessary to insure that all students who want to be involved will be able to be. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS 1. 2 years successful prior Student Ministry experience 2.
