All enquiries regarding competitions and matches to be referred to Match Committee. 2. Competitions will continue as scheduled unless (a) Club Captain closes course, (b) Match Committee cancels competition. 3. The Match Committee reserves the right to alter Programme when circumstances require. 4. On Match Play fixtures with a draw - matches can be played at a mutually arranged time before the date set (not after). If the draw does not suit, then by mutual arrangement a result of a match must be finalised by the evening of the date set. 5. When entering an event make sure you are available to participate on the day set down. 6. In competitions requiring a draw, an entry sheet will be placed on Notice Board. Those wishing to take part will enter their names. Draw will be displayed on Notice Board in club house. 7. Starting times, unless otherwise determined by Match Committee, will be 9am to 10am. Early/Late starters are to sign notebook in starting box. 8. Players in Match Play games that end all square after eighteen will continue from the first tee (with the benefit of strokes if in Handicap Match Play). 4 SLOW PLAY SLOW PLAY is a bugbear that is a constant concern to your committee. Please help us to defeat it at Inglewood. It usually results from thoughtlessness and rarely from just poor play. Be considerate to the players behind you and speed up. The following hints may help. 1. Always arrive at the club in plenty of time to tee off at your starting time. 2. Move quickly between shots - golf is a sport and should be played at a brisk pace. 3. Think of the next club you will use whilst walking to your ball, NOT when you have reached it. 4. Take your trundlers to the side of the green nearest to where the next tee is situated. 5. On green putt out wherever possible instead of marking and leave green smartly when you have holed out. 6. On tee the player with the honour should hit off smartly and then mark score for last hole. 7. When searching for a lost ball don't hold up players behind. Remember your allowed time of 5 minutes to search for a ball does not mean you should hold up following players for this time. Three-and-a-half hours should be the maximum time required to play a round of golf at Inglewood. PLEASE SUPPORT BY YOUR PATRONAGE YOUR SPONSORS WHO HAVE MADE THE PUBLICATION OF THIS BOOKLET POSSIBLE 5 DIFFERENT MATCHES AND HOW THEY ARE PLAYED AND SCORED Stroke Play: The original game in which each player plays for himself and tries to "beat the course". Score on each hole is marked hole by hole and totalled at the end of the round. Handicaps are now used. For other competitions this total is known as the gross score. Nett or Medal: Play as for stroke play but here a player's handicap is deducted from his gross score at the end of the round. The total left is the player's nett score. Par: Play is again as for stroke play but in this case the player tries to "beat the course" hole by hole. Handicaps are generally used and in this competition the player receives strokes in order of difficulty of the holes as laid down in the "Stroke" column of the scorecard. Scoring is +, -, — for holes won, halved or lost against the card respectively. Examples:(i) Player's handicap 13, hole number 9 which has a stroke of 7 (7th most difficult hole on the course). Player has a 4 (par for hole) and with his stroke deducted ends up with a 3 for the hole thus beating the course on this hole:- Mark + on card. (ii) Player's handicap is 6 - same hole and stroke numbers. Player scores a 4 (again par for the hole) and as he receives no stroke on this hole he halves the hole with the course:- mark 0 on card. (iii) Same player and hole as (ii). This time player scores a 5 and as he has not equalled or bettered par for the hole he has lost his hole against the course:- mark - on card. Player's wins, halves and losses are then totalled at the end of the round and the player will be X number of holes up or down or square with the card. Stableford: Play is for strokeplay but here points are allocated according to player's score hole by hole. Handicaps are used as in par and points awarded on the basis of: 1 point where hole score after handicap for hole is deducted is one over par. 2 points where score is equal to par after handicap deducted. 3 points where score is 1 shot under par after handicap is deducted. 4 points where score is 2 shots under par after handicap deducted. 5 points where score is 3 shots under par after handicap deducted. 6 PRECISION KERBING LTD 14 Cutfield St, Inglewood Phone (06) 756-8242 Fax (06) 756 8243 Russell Hamilton Mobile (0274) 489-116 All Kerbing and Concrete Work 7 Points are totalled at the end of the round and if a player has played to his handicap he should have 39 points. Russian Stableford: played in pairs. Players multiply their stableford scores on each hole then add 18 holes together. Modified Stableford: Based on nett scores on each hole. Par = 0 points; Bogey = -1 point; Double bogey = -3 points; Triple bogey or worse = -5 points; Birdie = +2 points; Eagle = +5 points; Albatross or better = +8 points. Matchplay: In matchplay a player does not play the course but plays against another player. Holes are won, lost or halved as in par and cards marked similarly in the match column. Where handicaps are used the lower handicapped player is required to give the number of strokes difference in their handicaps to the higher handicapped player starting at stroke hole number one (the most difficult hole). Four Ball Best Ball: Here teams of two play matchplay against each other in fours. The lowest handicapped player in the four gives strokes according to their handicap difference to the other players in the four. Holes are won, halved or lost after the lowest scores (after strokes are taken into account) in each team are compared. Scoring is as for matchplay. In matchplay and four ball best ball competitions holes need not be played out, i.e. “gimmees” may be given or holes conceded. Foursomes: Teams of two play in fours.Played as a medal round except that player A from each team tees off at first hole and then player B from each team plays second shot and player A plays third shot etc until ball is sunk. Tee shots are also alternated, ie A tees off on holes 1,3,5 etc and B tees off on holes 2,4,6 etc. Handicap is generally 50% of each team's combined handicaps. Canadian Foursomes: As for foursomes but here all players tee off and then each team's best placed ball is selected. The other team member then plays the second shot and shots alternate until the ball is sunk. Handicap is generally 40% of a team's combined handicaps. AMERICAN Foursomes: Play, handicaps and scoring as for Canadian Foursomes except that both players play the partners tee-shot before the teams best ball is selected. 8 Personal service at a reasonable cost for all your legal requirements. (If you go off course we will bring you back on) Offices at 92 Rata Street, Inglewood Telephone 756-8118 9 Two Ball Best Ball: Teams of two play individual medal rounds with the exception that at the completion of each hole the team’s best gross and nett scores are entered on the scorecard. At the end of the round each team’s gross and nett are totalled (generally on separate cards). Each player uses his full handicap when assessing nett score for each hole. Usually one team member keeps the opposing team's gross score while the other keeps the opposing team's nett score. Medalford: Play as for stableford but as the name suggests this is a combination of stableford and medal. At the end of the round the player's stableford points are deducted from his nett score to give a medalford score. This competition is designed for the "steady" golfer who doesn't have many disastrous holes. Puttingford: Add putts to nett score.
