Why Hubbell Associates Climb
“It is exhilarating! And, I have
seen the benefits firsthand as my
friend with one lung from lung
cancer fully enjoys life, in part
because of the American Lung
Association’s success in research
and programs.”
By Rick Tollakson, CEO and President
Hubbell Realty Company celebrates its 161st year in business in 2017. The world is a different place than it was in
1856, but one thing has remained strong throughout the history of our company – our commitment to giving back
to the community. One way we like to do that is to encourage our associates to get involved either by
volunteering or serving on nonprofit boards. We are proud to have two associates serving on the American Lung
Association Board of Directors. We climb to support the American Lung Association and to support these two
people as they give their time to such an incredibly important cause.
Hubbell’s first year with the climb was in 2015, when our Vice President of Property Management, John Bergman,
was serving as the Chair of the Corporate Campaign for the Climb. He asked a group of us to join him, and we did.
Some raced to the top of every building, others made it a social event at each floor. Either way, we were thrilled
to be a part of such a successful event!
John has been a part of the climb since it started 14 years ago and gets a big smile across his face when he talks
about the excitement as everyone prepares to take off for the climb. “It is exhilarating! And, I have seen the
benefits first-hand as my friend with one lung from lung cancer fully enjoys life, in part because of the Lung
Association’s success in research and programs.”
Hubbell supports another associate this year, Laura Montgomery, our long-time associate. New to the American
Lung Association board in 2015, Laura wanted to give of her time to the Lung Association to honor the memory
of her mother and the future of her daughter.
“My mother died young from COPD and
my daughter has had asthma her entire
life. The climb is American Lung
Association’s largest fundraiser of the year
– and there is still much research to be
done in the area of lung disease.” Last year
was Laura’s first climb. She is ready to go
again – and her fellow Hubbell team
members are too!
