Preposition A word that relates a noun or a pronoun following it to
another word in the sentence
Object of the
Preposition A noun or pronoun that follows a preposition in a
sentence.
It answers the question, “WHAT?” after the preposition.
Prepositional A GROUP of words that begins with a preposition and ends
Phrase with an object of the preposition.
It adds details to the sentence.
Subject Noun Noun used as the subject of a sentence
To find the subject noun ask “WHO?” or “WHAT?” the
sentence is about.
Subject Pronoun A pronoun that is used as the subject of the sentence.
Understood The subject pronoun of an imperative sentence.
“YOU” Understood “YOU” is left unstated in an imperative
sentence.
It should be labeled as a subject pronoun and written at
the beginning of a sentence in parentheses.
Example
SP
(You) Follow the directions on your test.
Action Verb Shows action.
Linking Verb Tells what the subject is DOING
Shows state of being.
Helping Verb Tells what the action is BEING or what it is LIKE
Changes the tense of the main verb.
Most common is, am, are, was, were, be, being, been, have, has, had, do,
helping verb are… does, may, might, must, then, should, would, can, could,
shall, will, did
ALWAYS Interrogative sentences usually begin with a helping verb!!
