Newark, DE- E-52 Student Theatre at the University of Delaware is proud to present William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, an original production of the timeless classic produced and cast by University of Delaware students. The production is directed by Kelli Shermeyer, President of E52 Student Theatre and director of several prior E-52 productions, including the 2009-2010 season productions of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Steve Kirvan, (Rosencrantz, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, 2009) joins the creative team as stage manager. Shermeyer’s staging of Macbeth set in the contemporary world aims to inspire, move or even terrify viewers. This modern adaptation leaves William Shakespeare's words intact while exploring the timeless and darker sides of politics- including regicide, corruption, lies, envy, and murder. Audiences are encouraged to witness all the magic, mystery and bloody treachery of Macbeth up close and personal in the small, intimate space of Bacchus Theater. This production is gratuitous, gritty and sleek—expect it to be bloody (with Special Effects Make-Up by Gretchen Spencer) as the creative team aims to provide a valuable experience for those with deep appreciation for works of Shakespeare, and also of modern horror. Those familiar with E-52 may recognize many of the seasoned cast members, such as Kurt Meusel (Macbeth), Danielle Hillanbrand (Lady Macbeth), Fallon Rice (Witch), Tyler Rommel (Witch/Angus), Gretchen Spencer (Malcolm), and Alex Minore (Duncan) but also welcome the many new faces in this cast: Scott Bass (Macduff), Caitlyn Goodhue (Witch), Kate Banton (Lady Macduff), Christine Barba (Ross), Christine Marks (Lennox), Arthur Reeves (Fleance) and Josiah Pelot (Banquo). The show will feature original music composed by cast member Scott Bass and fight choreography by Steve Kirvan, Kelli Shermeyer and Kurt Meusel. After the opening night performance on April 21, a talkback will be held for those who wish to talk to the cast and crew about their experience with the show. **Please note: The theater is handicap accessible through use of elevator in Perkins Student Center. Due to loud noises, frightening images, rapid and extreme lighting changes, smoking, violence, and blood and gore, this production may not be appropriate for children or those with epilepsy or other sensitivities.
