Sweet Briar Barn for Artists’ Studios

This adaptive reuse project involved the renovation of a 4,900 SF existing dairy barn on the Sweet Briar
College campus. The building now houses several studio arts disciplines; these departments’ previous
spaces were converted into a new dance studio and theater rehearsal area, and new fitness facilities
were added. A photography studio and darkroom are also located in the barn. Oak and chestnut floors
were milled from the barn’s original joists, and high ceilings and natural light provide a spacious feel.
