The importance of salary only slightly decreased since 2014: salary (23%, id.) is viewed as the most important factor before job security (15%, id.). Pleasant work atmosphere and career opportunities (8%, id.) are next before job content (7%, id.) and flexible working (6%, id.). When they are asked to select their top 5 most important factors, we see a similar pattern compared to the 2014 survey: salary comes out first again (68%, -2%) followed by job security (57%, -2%). To men, interesting job content and training opportunities are more important. Men are also more attracted by companies that are financially healthy and that make use of latest technologies. Attributes by age Young potentials are more focused on employers that offer interesting job content and international career opportunities. They are also more concerned by a convenient location of the company and with environmental and social awareness (CSR). Older workforce looks more for financial stability, high salary and strong management. Work atmosphere, flexible work arrangements and good work-life balance become more important after the age of 25. Attributes by education level Financially healthy companies and well located firms attract more people with a lower education degree, whereas (international) career opportunities and job content are more appealing to the higher educated. Good work-life balance is also more important to higher educated workforce.
