Introduction to Geometry, Lesson 1 Objective: Identify & name points, lines, & planes Unit Question: What is the Importance of Communication? What does undefined mean? Only explained using examples and descriptions. Learner Profile: OpenMinded Area of Interaction: Health and Social Education May 1812:51 PM May 182:22 PM The 3 undefined terms in Geometry are: Point, Line, and Plane A point: Has no size, but is used to indicate a specific location in space. All geometric figures are made of points. The symbol is A May 182:24 PM May 182:24 PM A line: A Plane: Extends in one dimension. Consists of an infinite number of points Has no width and extends infinitely in 2 directions. The symbol is A n B A flat surface that extends indefinitely in all directions. Named by 3 points not on a line. Symbol: C A B May 182:30 PM May 182:40 PM 1 2. Space is a boundless, 3dimensional set of all points. 3. Collinear is points contained within the same line. A B 5. Coplanar is points within the same plane. 6. Noncoplanar are points not within the same plane. D D A C 4. Noncollinear is points not contained on the same line. C E B May 182:49 PM May 182:56 PM 7. Intersection of 2 Geometric Figure is the set of all points that are contained in both. What type of Intersections? Line & Line: Line & Plane Plane & Plane: May 183:01 PM May 196:58 AM Gerrit Rietveld (24 June 1888–25 June 1964) was a Dutch furniture designer and architect. One of the principal members of the Dutch artistic movement called De Stijl. Rietveld's Chair: The Red Blue Chair was a chair designed in 1917.The original chair was painted in the familiar De Stijl palette of primary colours black, grey, and white. However, it was later changed to resemble the paintings of Piet Mondrian after Rietveld came into contact with this artist's work in 1918. Rietveld joined the De Stijl movement in 1919. May 197:09 AM May 197:14 AM 2 May 19th Assignment: 1. On 1 side of the paper, describe the 3 undefined terms of Geometry (point, line, and plane.) Draw an example and identify the 3 terms. 2. On the back side of the paper draw 3 reallife examples (not the same as the ones we did in class) of the following intersections: line and plane line and line plane and plane May 197:02 AM 3
