Is this solution easier than other
solutions used in scanning, like laser scanning and
total stations?
Yes. We developed this technology with the
roofing professionals in mind. We understand how
complicated laser scanning can be and how hard
and expensive it would be to put a laser scanner in
the air. By using a drone and following our simple
capture patterns and a basic understanding of
cameras, you can survey a roof in minutes, not hours.
123DMeasureTM by VantedgePoint is a low cost “laser
scanning like” service. Just like laser scanning it creates
an as-built 3D point cloud and can automatically
detect the edges to create a DXF wireframe and report.
123DMeasure creates automatic Survey Points (i.e.
corner points in your structure) making it far simpler
than surveying using a “traditional Total Station”
approach.

Generate & Validate 3D Models
Do I need to buy a drone to use this
technology?
While we recommend flying a drone over the roof
to make the process easier and quicker, it is not
required. You can do a roof survey with any pole-based
camera or smart phone and receive pretty accurate
measurements and models. The images or video from
the drone or smart phone are the only things required
to create the measurements you need.
