The Charger - Oostburg Christian School

December 14, 2016
The entire OCS building will be closed and off limits from December 26—January 1 due to cleaning and polishing of
our hallway floors. This includes the gym. Please do not try and access the building during this week. We will see
you back here on January 2. Enjoy your Christmas Break.
The Christmas Concert is scheduled for this Thursday, December 15th at 6:30 p.m. All 3K-5th grades should wear
red tops with black bottoms. The 6th—8th grade should wear nice Christmas attire. Please join us for a great night!
The Guenther family has moved! Here is their new address for your directory:
SHEBOYGAN, WI 53081-8857
A generous donor has again offered to buy
all of our students a Jason Mentink Memorial Charger Shoot-Out T--shirt that they can
wear during the weekends of the basketball
tournaments. Before that happens we need
to know what size t-shirt your child needs.
Please email the school office at [email protected] and simply state
your OCS children’s names and t-shirt sizes.
We need to hear from each family
by December 22.
Thank you to all who contributed to the Christmas Extravaganza! It was a great day of shopping and enjoying food and friends. Thank you for your cookie donations, we sold 181 dozen
cookies in 1 1/2 hours. We had 50 vendors fill the gym and offered great products. Overall
the event will contribute $4500 to our GRACE pledge for the school. Thank you again for
your support of our Christmas Extravaganza.
Mr. Jim LeMahieu has kindly made two more puzzle boards if anyone would like a last-minute Christmas presents,
please contact the school office. The value is $35. These boards have four drawers to keep your puzzle pieces in
and allows you to move your unfinished puzzle off of a table and store it somewhere else until you are ready to work
on it again. Do you have someone on your Christmas list that loves puzzles? Then stop in for this awesome and
unique gift!
We are looking for a 9x13 pan metal pan that would have the initials KD on them. Check the pans you took home
from OCS to make sure you have the right one.
Don’t forget to check the following sources if you are wondering about school being open:
WHBL AM 1330
CBS 58
The way we communicate most things with our families is through the use of email. We send notices, bulletins, information, permission slips, etc. home via this method. Please check your emails frequently so you know what is
happening at school. If your primary email changes, please let the office know so we have the most updated information.
We are looking for a parent/grandparent to help with playground supervision during our 1st recess at 10 a.m. All of
our lower elementary kids are outside at that time and we could use an extra set of “eyes” to watch our kids. We
require our teachers to take turns monitoring recess duty but we only have limited amount of staff and they also
need recess as their prep/regroup time. If you would have some time available and would be willing to help watch
our kids as they play, please call the school office. We would love to have individuals commit to helping on a specific day of the week for a month or more or all year, if possible. You would not be left alone—you would be assisting
the assigned teacher watch out kids.
During these crazy busy days of Christmas it’s nice to know that your kids have the option to stay in aftercare until
5:30 p.m. each day. If you are not a “regular” aftercare user—no problem—your kids can stay anytime. We just ask
that you let the office know ahead of time.
Just a note for your planning—December 23 is our last day of school before Christmas and it is an early dismissal
day. There will not be aftercare on that day! Make sure you note this as you plan your week!
Did you play boys basketball at OCS between 2001—2012 or girls volleyball between 2009—2015? Did one of your
siblings or kids or grandkids? Do you need a unique Christmas gift? Stop in the office to see our collection of
“vintage” jerseys that we are selling for a mere $5/jersey.
Right now, just in time for your Christmas shopping needs, we have the following gift cards
available in smaller denominations which is perfect for the stockings that need stuffing!! We
have, in limited quantities, ready for pick-up:
Barnes & Noble
Attached is an invite for a Christmas Break basketball camp at South High for grades 3—8.
Oostburg Christian School is excited to host our 6th annual Jason
Mentink Memorial Charger Shoot-out. This tournament is held in
honor of Jason as he played in the first Charger Shoot-Out 20
years ago. Jason went home to Glory in 2010, and now along
with his family, we honor his memory with our tournament.
Our tournament will be held on January 27–28 and February 3-4
2017. Sixteen middle school basketball teams from around Sheboygan County will compete over the course of the two weekends.
We estimate that over 2000 people will be in our school over these
two weekends.
We would like to encourage our families at OCS to consider a
sponsorship this year. Maybe you would like to get together with
another family or 2 and make a group sponsorship this year. Example “mothers of elementary kids”, or “basketball parents at
OCS”. We would love to see support for this event to come from
our “OCS family” as well as outside business. Challenge yourself
to become a sponsor for this years tournament.
