1st Quarter WELCOME BACK! Welcome back to another fun filled year. I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce m yself. My name is Miss Cutlan and I am your child’s physical education teacher. I have been working at West since 2004. I am very excited to start another year. The goal of the physical education curriculum is to help children explore a variety of ways to enjoy being physically active. Here at West your child will have physical education twice a week for thirty minutes. During this time we will focus on movement concepts (running, skipping, hopping, speeds, levels, etc.), sports skills (striking, throwing, volleying, kicking, etc.), and wellness concepts (healthy foods, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, muscular strength, etc.). My hope for each student is that they will come away from this year with a love for movement and the knowledge of how to live a healthier lifestyle. Stay tuned to coming newsletters about how you can stay healthy as a family! PLEASE HELP ME OUT Attention K-‐1st grade parents please work with your children on tying their shoes. As you can imagine it can be very dangerous for students to play in gym class with their shoes untied. It is also very hard for me to help multiple students tie their shoes. This can take up a lot of our thirty-‐minute class time. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Coming Soon-‐STACK UP! On November 12th West will be participating with school across the world to try and break the Guinness World Record for “Most People Stacking at Multiple Locations in One Day.” Stay tuned about how you can participate in this fantastic event! Is this happening in your home? If not, think of fun ways to be active together. Take a walk, go for a bike ride, or play at the park together. Get outside and enjoy the fall weather! DON’T FORGET! Don’t forget your tennis shoes for P.E. It is very important that each student wear a good pair of tennis shoes during P.E. Without proper shoes a student cannot participate fully and safely in the days activities. Keeping an extra pair of shoes in the classroom can help prevent days shoes are forgotten. I have included classes P.E. days to the right so you can m ake sure your child has tennis shoes on the appropriate days. Doctor’s Notes If your child needs to sit out of P.E. for any reason please make sure they have a doctor’s note. If you aren’t able to get to a doctor I will accept a parent note for one day of P.E. After that please make sure they have a note from a doctor. Also if your child has a medical condition that may need extra attention during P.E. please don’t hesitate to contact me.
