Dear Parents,
Please enjoy reading what is happening in
2nd Grade this week.
***We are going to make a change to our
word study tests that we give each
week. 2nd grade will now be giving our
tests on Mondays in order to give the
students more time to study and work
with their words each week. This will
start this week so their next word study
test will be Monday, Sept. 23. Please
email with any questions!

Writing
We will continue practicing
the "Daily 5" during
Literacy Workshop time,
focusing on building stamina
in reading and writing.
Reading
Our focus will be on ACCURACY strategies,
such as word chunks, look for little words
in big words, take off word endings,
and rereading. We will
discuss WHAT DOES GOOD WRITING
LOOK LIKE and practice punctuation,
capitalization, and revising.
Word Study
This week, we will focus on words with
/sh/, /ch/, and /th/.
Our 5 high frequency words are: came,
make, only, said and when
Math
This week our focus will
be understanding the
importance of zero in
numbers. We will discuss
the importance of zero
when building numbers in
the base ten system. We
will read and write
numbers using numerals,
number words, and
expanded form. We are
all enjoying our Number
Talks every day!
Science / Social Studies
This week we will start our unit on
government leaders. We will be talking
about how we vote for leaders and what our
community leaders do for us and our
community.
