GENERAL INFORMATION
It is my pleasure to invite you to SCSU Brass Day, sponsored by
the SCSU Department of Music, Yamaha Corp., and Bruce and
Dee Pearson. Our goal is to provide an educational and musical
experience for area high school students and directors, and to
foster the growth of the brass playing community in St. Cloud
and the surrounding area.
Victor Barranco joined
The U.S. Army Blues
in 2009 after finishing
a Master’s degree in
Trombone Performance
at the University of North
Texas. After graduating
from high school in 2001,
he studied at UofM Twin Cities. Before joining The U.S. Army
Blues, he toured with the national Broadway production of
Fiddler on the Roof. He has performed and recorded with artists
such as Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, Tony Bennett Janelle Monae,
Aretha Franklin, Train, Prince Royce, Gladys Knight, Jewel,
Wayne Newton, Al Jarraeu, Stevie Nicks, Melissa Manchester,
Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Chaka Khan, David Foster,
The Spoon, Johnny Mathis, and many more.
Date: Saturday, December 3, 2016
Participants will have an opportunity to attend clinics and
master classes, strengthen their brass techniques, develop
relationships with other participants as well as our guest artists,
and perform in the final concert of the evening – a large brass
choir consisting of students, area brass players, educators, and
guests. Band directors will be given an additional opportunity
to meet with the guest artists in a Q&A session to discuss brass
techniques and pedagogy.
As a special bonus, participants will have the opportunity to try
out a new horn! Brass specialists from Schmitt Music’s Trumpet
and Low Brass shops will be there to let participants try out
their vast line of brass instruments. This is sure to be an amazing
event. I hope to see you there. Be sure to register soon!
Sincerely,
Mark Breckenridge – SCSU Trombone Instructor
