September 25, 2011 ŚWIĘTA JADWIGA SANTA EDUVIGES 2226 NORTH HOYNE AVENUE • CHICAGO, IL 60647 W EEKLY R EFLECTION THE NINTH COMMANDMENT You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant, or his maidservant, or his ox, or his ass, or anything that is your neighbor's Ex 20:17. Every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Mt 5:28. 2514 St. John distinguishes three kinds of covetousness or concupiscence: lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and pride of life. In the Catholic catechetical tradition, the ninth commandment forbids carnal concupiscence. 2516 Because man is a composite being, spirit and body, there already exists a certain tension in him; a certain struggle of tendencies between "spirit" and "flesh" develops. But in fact this struggle belongs to the heritage of sin. It is a consequence of sin and at the same time a confirmation of it. It is part of the daily experience of the spiritual battle: Continued on page 2 St. Hedwig, pray for us. Św. Jadwigo, módl się za nami. Santa Eduviges, ruega por nosotros. ARCHDIOCESE OF CHICAGO Administered by the Resurrection Fathers and Brothers Celebrating 122 years in the Bucktown Community. NOTES AND EVENTS 2 W EEKLY R EFLECTIONS continued from page 1: I. Purification of the Heart 2517 The heart is the seat of moral personality: "Out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, fornication...." Mt 15,19. The struggle against carnal covetousness entails purifying the heart and practicing temperance: Remain simple and innocent, and you will be like little children who do not know the evil that destroys man's life. II. The Battle for Purity 2520 Baptism confers on its recipient the grace of purification from all sins. But the baptized must continue to struggle against concupiscence of the flesh and disordered desires. With God's grace he will prevail - by the virtue and gift of chastity, for chastity lets us love with upright and undivided heart; - by purity of intention which consists in seeking the true end of man: with simplicity of vision, the baptized person seeks to find and to fulfill God's will in everything; Rom 12:2; Col 1:10 - by purity of vision, external and internal; by discipline of feelings and imagination; by refusing all complicity in impure thoughts that incline us to turn aside from the path of God's commandments: "Appearance arouses yearning in fools" Wis. 15:5 - by prayer: I thought that continence arose from one's own powers, which I did not recognize in myself. I was foolish enough not to know . . . that no one can be continent unless you grant it. For you would surely have granted it if my inner groaning had reached your ears and I with firm faith had cast my cares on you. 2521 Purity requires modesty (…) Modesty protects the intimate center of the person. It means refusing to unveil what should remain hidden. It is ordered to chastity to whose sensitivity it bears witness. It guides how one looks at others and behaves toward them in conformity with the dignity of persons and their solidarity. THANK YOU!! I would like to thank everybody who joined the Dedication and Blessing of St. Hedwig Pastoral Center. OCTOBER THE MONTH OF THE HOLY ROSARY Say the Rosary every day… Pray, pray a lot and offer sacrifices for sinners... I'm Our Lady of the Rosary. Only I will be able to help you. ...In the end My Immaculate Heart will triumph." Our Lady at Fatima T he word Rosary means "Crown of Roses". Our Lady has revealed to several people that each time they say a Hail Mary they are giving her a beautiful rose and that each complete Rosary makes her a crown of roses. The rose is the queen of flowers, and so the Rosary is the rose of all devotions and it is therefore the most important one. The Holy Rosary is considered a perfect prayer because within it lays the awesome story of our salvation. With the Rosary in fact we meditate the mysteries of joy, of sorrow and the glory of Jesus and Mary. It's a simple prayer, humble so much like Mary. It's a prayer we can all say together with Her, the Mother of God. With the Hail Mary we invite Her to pray for us. Our Lady always grants our request. She joins Her prayer to ours. Therefore it becomes ever more useful, because what Mary asks She always receives, Jesus can never say no to whatever His Mother asks for. The Venerable Holy Father John Paul II Welcome to recitation of the rosary every day during morning prayers at 7:15 am and at 6:15 pm. Also every Saturday at 4:15 pm at the Grotto. R E F L E K S J E T YG O D N I A 6 DZIEWIĄTE PRZYKAZANIE Nie będziesz pożądał domu bliźniego twego. Walka o czystość 2520 Chrzest udziela temu, kto go przyjmuje, łaski oczyszczenia ze wszystkich grzechów. Ochrzczony powinien jednak nadal walczyć z pożądaniem ciała i z nieuporządkowanymi pożądliwościami. Udzieliłbyś mi na pewno, gdybym z głębi serca wołał do Ciebie i gdybym miał wiarę dostatecznie mocną, by moje troski Tobie powierzyc.. 7:15 albo o 6:15 wieczorem. W soboty przy grocie o godz. 4:15. Zapraszamy!!
