Your bolivianos go to a good cause, as the café is part of a support centre for girls who live and/or work on the streets of Cochabamba • Dumbo: (Prado, Heroinas casi 25 de Mayo) A huge restaurant serving food all day, but especially popular in the afternoons for ice-cream and coffee. They do tasty albeit it pricey salteñas as well PUBS AND CLUBS: • Dali: (Plaza Barba de Padilla e/ Baptista y España) This likeable café/bar is part of Sustainable Bolivia´s extended family. They serve bar snacks as well as main dishes, alongside a variety of different coffees and cocktails and is located in a popular area of town • SAS: (same as above) Next door to Dali, this spacious bar is a popular spot for local gigs • La Muela del Diablo: (Potosi y Portales) A spacious bar with a leafy courtyard, next to the Simon Patiño Centre, serving up potent absinthe cocktails. It gets extremely busy on the weekends • La Marka: (España y Ecuador) A popular bar on the weekends with djs playing an eclectic mix ranging from funk to techno. The staff are friendly, the drinks reasonably priced and on occasion they have club nights with djs from La Paz • Ecla: (Beni casi Potosi) A friendly bar in the Recoleta area with a good vibe and occasional live music. They also do decent food, especially the almuerzo which includes one of the best salad bars in Cochabamba • Nakunna: (Salamanca casi Lanza) A welcoming Irish bar which does live music on weekends. They also serve food and a variety of drinks, and are the only bar in town that has Guinness and Tonic water! 3 • Picasso´s: (España) A busy little candlelit bar that serves Italian food as well as one of the best caipirinhas in town • La Pimienta Verde: (El Prado) A popular basement club situated on Av. America (next to ‘Las Islas’), open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The music selection varies from rock to electro and the ten boliviano cover charge includes a free drink • La Tirana: (Lanza casi Ramon Rivera) A two storey bar/club especially popular amongst locals which caters to a slightly older crowd. Open on weekends it can get pretty busy but still maintains a good vibe • La Mandarina: (El Pando) Frequented by young and trendy Cochabambinos, La Mandarina is the poshest club in town and mainly plays electronic music with a cover charge of about 30 bolivianos • Secret: (El Pando) One of the hippest spots du jour and playing mainly the latest latin music, Secret is a popular choice on the weekends, and is a firm gringo favorite • Live: (Av. Americas) Another trendy club that caters to a young and wealthy crowd, playing an eclectic range of music from the latest chart hits to house • 40 grados: (El Pando) A spacious and popular bar catering to a mixed crowd. • Strike: (El Pando) Conveniently located in front of 40 Grados, Strike is Cochabamba´s only bar/bowling alley • Misk’i Cositas: (Av. America Oeste 716) A traditional and typically Cochabambino bar serving a more alternative crowd and offers live music (jazz, folk etc) on a regular basis. The drinks are all traditional as well, so you won´t find a mojito in this joint! The best night to go is the first Friday of each month RESTURANTS: • Bufalo´s Rodizio: (Torre Sofer, Av. Oquendo) A Brazilian style eat-all-you-can buffet extravaganza where the never ending parade of waiters bring meat to your table faster than you can say no. They also have an extensive salad and dessert bar • Sole Mio: (Av.America y Pando, Tel: 4283379) The Neopolitan owners import all their ingredients from Italy and it makes for the best pizza in town. All pizzas are made in wood-fired ovens and they also do home delivery • Capri: (Heroinas y Antezana) Big pizzas for a small price, this restaurant is located on a convenient street corner, making it good for people watching as well as eating • Casablanca: (25 de Mayo e/ Ecuador y Venezuela) Both bar and restaurant, this place is popular with locals and tourists alike and can get pretty busy especially on weekends. They serve a wide range of international dishes and drinks well into the wee hours • Casa de Campo: (Boulevar Recoleta) One of Cochabamba´s best Bolivian restaurants serving up massive portions of traditional food and steaks. It’s a loud and cheerful partly open-air restaurant that’s always filled to the brim especially on weekends • Paprika: (Lanza casi Ramon Rivera) Paprika is one of Cochabamba´s most popular restaurants, 4 serving up a wide range of local and international food including grilled meat. It has an open-air courtyard complete with heated lamps, perfect for an after dinner drink • Abasi: (Tarija) A welcoming Indian restaurant with great décor and ambiance, set on a quiet leafy street with friendly service and authentic dishes, including chapattis made in their wood-fire oven • Kabbab :(Potosi y Portales) A cozy restaurant serving delicious Persian kebabs, flat bread and Turkish coffee right next door to the Muela del Diablo • Los Castores: (El Prado esq.Oruro) Reputed to be the best salteñeria in town, Los Castores is located on a busy street corner, perfect for people watching whilst slurping up a salteña or two. It’s also the only place where you can find super-super picante (spicy) versions • La Cantonata: (España y Mayor Rocha) This is one of Cochabamba´s best Italian restaurants located in a popular area of town. The interior is cozy and candlelit with a roaring fire and there´s an extensive fresh pasta menu as well as plenty of wine choices VEGETARIAN • Ganesha Comida Vegetariana: (Mayor Rocha) Popular place for almuerzos (lunch); situated just off Plaza Colon with a varied buffet selection and great salads, but get there early Gopal: (España) Set in a great location with a quiet open-air terrace this is a good choice for vegetarian versions of traditional Bolivian food and curries UNO´s: (Heroinas y San Martin) One of Cochabamba’s best vegetarian restaurants, serving up a great almuerzo complete with an extensive salad bar. They´re open from breakfast till dinner but don’t serve alcohol 5
