grant claims; make improvement recommendations to supervisor, department managers and principals
based on audit findings in order to meet State and Federal Accounting requirements.
Assist Accounting and Budget Manager with planning and decision-making related to changes in
accounting practices and software; coordinate training for fiscal software applications; review
procedures to facilitate accurate District accounting practices and provide system efficiencies.
Participate in departmental project and staff meetings as required; assist Accounting and Budget
Manager with special projects as requested, facilitate staff communication and be a resource to
accounting department staff regarding general fund planning and procedures to foster open
communication and ensure consistency in budgetary practices.
Maintain current and archived accounting files for retention in accordance with State guidelines;
respond to records requests from individuals and/or agencies and prepare annual reports as requested
in order to adhere to State and Federal regulations.
Train and respond to District staff regarding accounting procedures; communicate effectively with
District staff, students, parents, as well as vendors and other external customers in order to provide
communications that are clear, concise and reflect well on the Accounting Department.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
BA degree in accounting, business administration or related field is required
Three (3) years of accounting and/or budgeting experience in a large or complex
organization, preferably within a school district
Equivalent experience may substitute for up to two (2) years of the education requirement

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
 Maintain confidentiality regarding student, school, District and/or staff issues, conversations with
building administrator and correspondence.
 Knowledge of general accounting practices, budgeting practices and procedures, including filing,
recordkeeping, accounting, statistics and application of safety procedures related to performance
responsibilities
 Knowledge of computer operation and ability to learn specific software programs, generating
reports through a variety of applications and utilization of data tracking tools
 Knowledge of school finance, accounting and budgeting processes and cost projections; detecting
calculation errors and verifying financial data
 Skill in effective oral and written communications
 Ability to perform operations with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
 Ability to learn and interpret laws and regulations governing Washington State school finance
 Ability to analyze and synthesize data and organize and prioritize work
 Ability to interpret technical data for non-technical staff
 Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of staff and
community patrons
 Ability to exercise sensitivity in dealing with individuals of diverse socio-economic
backgrounds, cognitive and physical abilities as well as with individuals of diverse cultural
and ethnic backgrounds
 Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight timelines with a high degree of accuracy
 Ability to provide backup within office personnel positions as needed
