HAAS Reading Treasures Grades 6-8
Reading is one of the most important skills your child will learn, which is why HAAS has created a
very exciting program to encourage reading year round! The reading requirement for your child
is to read 30 chunks of books independently this year. Please Note: Summer Reading counted
for at least two chunks.
About the Reading Treasures Program
“Open a Book…Find a Treasure!”
Students should track the books they’ve read throughout the year in their agendas or on the reading
log provided online for parents. This should be checked frequently to ensure that they are on track
to read twelve 125-page “chunks” each quarter. Each student will receive one 20 point grade in
Reading class each quarter based upon the number of “chunks” they have completed.
Once students finish reading a book, they will complete an activity of their choice listed under the
“Reading Response Activity List” on the next page. This assignment, once it has been completed
by your child and reviewed by you, should be turned in to the teacher.
We appreciate your support!
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please email Shaina Hernandez, Reading
Coach, at [email protected]
Thank you.
