February 2012

Greetings from me to all members of the Mounted Patrol as we launch this new year together. My tenure began the
night of the Installation Dinner which, by all accounts, was a resounding success. The changing of the guard went
smoothly with Under Sheriff Carlos Bolanos serving as the officiate.
Meanwhile back at the Clubhouse the Committee Chairmen are dutifully planning and fine-tuning the numerous tasks
and exciting events that are on the agenda for the year 2012.
Adam Sweyer, Chair of the Spring Ride, has a potentially great location in mind;; the location decision will be finalized
and reported to you at the first February dinner meeting.
David Jabs did a spectacular job in his debut as our new Staff Sergeant, with the help of his worthy volunteer
crew. NOTICE: We remain in need of a Mess Sergeant to assist David. In the interim, I will pass a sign-up sheet at the
first February dinner meeting, and expect WRJHWYROXQWHHUVWRKHOSLQWKHNLWFKHQRQDURWDWLQJEDVLV,I WKHUHDUHQ·W
enough volunteers, then I will have no other choice but to shanghai the best cooks I can find and press them into
involuntary servitude.
Doug Hutten, Chair of Membership, is diligently collecting the data on, and scheduling interviews for, prospective
members. I encourage all of you to work with him by encouraging worthy, eligible men in the community to take a look
at our organization. Our membership numbers have been dropping despite the recent infusion of a few good men.
After many lively discussions and hearing opinions on both sides of the matter, the majority of the board decided not
to appeal the 10 new conditions in the new CUP. I will explain the details at a February dinner meeting.
I want to reiterate my pledge to the membership that during my tenure, I will conduct our business in an open and fair

principle that the welfare of the members and the viability of the organization will come first and foremost.
I will close with this quote from John Adams: ´2OGPLQGVDUHOLNHROGKRUVHV\RXPXVWH[HUFLVHWKHP

As we are finishing this edition after a record breaking two months of dry weather, the storm door has finally
opened! Many trails will quickly become very wet with trees down. Between our e-mail and the coordination from ETrack, trail conditions are mostly up to date. We can avoid unnecessary trail maintenance by delaying rides where the
ground conditions have stretches of deep mud. For the next couple of months the weather will provide a trade off: Full
reservoirs in the Sierras for next summer vs. some extra winter trail riding. :LWKWKHUHFHQWH[WHQVLRQVRI WKH´$OO
