March 2016 Newsletter Spring Clean Your Finances As spring finally approaches, the time has come to take a look at all of that holiday spending and clean up your financial clutter. To save you time, we have developed four areas that you should pay attention to this month. Check Your Spending And Debt Set an hour aside this spring to sit down with your advisor and review your spending and saving habits. This includes analyzing your credit card “Our life is frittered away by detail … simplify, simplify.” ― Henry David Thoreau report and developing a plan to pay off any debt. Focus on simplifying your budget by creating broader categories. Do you notice any problem areas? Banking Most accounts these days – whether checking accounts, utility accounts or student loan accounts – have a paperless billing option. Online banking allows users to cut the clutter and avoid any late fees by paying bills on time every month using automatic payment. If you are not a current user, consider taking the time to sign up and eliminate the hassle of old statements and checks. Why not opt for less paper! Investments and Retirement Accounts It is beneficial to have an annual review of your financial portfolios. So much can happen throughout the course of a year, including major life changes. Spend this spring rebalancing and updating your accounts and beneficiaries. Estate Planning Update and simplify! Do you have a Will, a Power of Attorney, and a Medical Directive? If not, don’t procrastinate. If you do have these documents, when was the last time they were reviewed and updated? Arthur Strauss President of GenNow, LLC (205)-967-9595 @SFGadvisors
