202-001-50
This course is designed as an introduction to chemical principles for those students who
need to complete a chemistry course at the Secondary 5 level in order to fulfill the entrance
requirements for a Cegep program. Topics include: symbols, formulas, equations, the mole,
elementary calculations in stoichiometry, the states of matter, ideal gases, real gases,
kinetic molecular theory, heat transfer in chemical reactions, rates of chemical reactions,
equilibrium in has phase reactions, dissociation of acids and salts in aqueous solutions,
titration curves, redox reactions, voltaic and electrolytic cells.
ENGLISH
SECONDARY 5 ENGLISH
REMEDIAL ACTIVITIES
603-002-50
This non-credit course is designed to help students whose first language is not English improve
their English language skills to an introductory college level. The course focuses on improving
students’ reading, writing, and oral skills by exposing them to a variety of texts and writing
assignments. Students entering Vanier College may be required to take this course based on
their English Placement Test or their Admissions Test.

Topics are selected from sets, basic algebra, relations and functions. The topics
covered include: operations on sets, constants, variables, polynomials, operations on
polynomials, factoring, simplification of algebraic expressions, solution of quadratic
equations, relations, functions, Cartesian coordinate system, slope, and line.
SECONDARY 5 MATHEMATICS
REMEDIAL ACTIVITIES
201-015-50
Topics are selected from trigonometry, exponents and logarithms, functions and conic
sections. The topics covered include: degrees, radians, arc length, trigonometric
values with and without calculators, identities (including double angle formulas),
simplification of trigonometric expressions, sine and cosine laws, graphing, properties
and graphs of logarithmic and exponential functions, graphing of quadratic, absolute

MUSIC
MUSIC THEORY, SIGHT-SINGING AND DICTATION
REMEDIAL ACTIVITIES
551-004-50
Remedial Theory / ET course will focus more on Theoretical material than either
Sight Singing or Ear Training (approx. 70% Theory; 30% SS/ET).
Theory Curriculum:
•
Notation
•
All Key Signatures (Major and Minor);
•
Scales (Major and three forms of Minor)
•
All Intervals (major, minor, augmented, diminished); Interval Inversions; Compound
Intervals if time permits. Note that intervals are to be taught by calculating distances
against the tonic of a major key, and not by counting semitones.
•
Triads (major, minor, augmented, diminished) in all inversions.
•
Rhythm and meter (most common simple and compound meters)
PHYSICAL SCIENCE
SECONDARY 4 PHYSICAL SCIENCE
REMEDIAL ACTIVITIES
982-003-50
This course is designed for students who have not taken the Secondary 4 Physical
Science (STE 404 or SE 402) and wish to take the Secondary 5 Chemistry 202- 201 and
Secondary 5 Physics 203-001 courses in order to fulfill the entrance requirements for a
Cegep program. Topics include: the atomic structure of matter, electrical and magnetic
properties of matter, conductivity of solids, simple electrical circuits and measurements,
electrical and thermal energy, the periodic table and periodic trends, isotopes, chemical
families, chemical bonding, Lewis structures, acids, bases, and salts, electrolytes, solution
concentration, pH stoichiometric calculations.
PHYSICS
SECONDARY 5 PHYSICS
REMEDIAL ACTIVITIES
203-001-50
This course is designed for students who intend to continue to 203-NYA Mechanics, but
need to improve their physics preparation. The course aims to improve students'
mathematical skills, laboratory technique, and problem-solving ability, while providing a
solid foundation in One- dimensional kinematics, Newton's laws, Work and Energy, Light
and Lenses.
