11 October 27, 2015 SOCIETY FOR HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT UNF STUDENT CHAPTER UNF SHRM behind the scenes at Everbank Field by Jessica Wilson Friday, October 16, 2015 – Members of SHRM Jacksonville visited Jacksonville Jaguars, LLC at Everbank Field for an opportunity to tour the facilities and meet the people who work behind the scenes of the NFL organization. In attendance representing UNF were Jeremy Marshall (President, UNF SHRM) and Jessica Wilson (Director, Communications, UNF SHRM). Participants of the site tour were greeted by the head of the Jaguars’ HR department Jessica Jones (Director, Employee Relations). Jones was accompanied by Natalie McGinniss (Manager, Employee Relations). The tour included a closer look at the playing field, as well as a visit to the new FanDuelVille Deck where the party cabanas and pool are located. The walking portion of the tour ended at Shad Khan’s suite where the owner of the team enjoys watching the games with a panoramic view above the 50yard line. Tour participants relaxed in the suite and asked Jones and McGinniss about their work for the Jaguars. Amazingly, these two women make up the entire human resources department for the organization. Jones came to the Jaguars three years ago with a law background. McGinniss started just two months ago with a background in hospitality HR management. Jones and McGinniss answered questions about working in the NFL industry, how they handle recruitment for the Jaguars, and how to be successful in a HR career. Jones’ advice included, “Don’t just do the job; do more than the job.” She said, “Give 110%, and wow! People notice.” View of Everbank Field from the FanDuelVille Deck a front desk clerk at a hotel although her true interest was in HR. Her perseverance paid off and she was later offered a HR position at the hotel. McGinniss advised that to get a foot in the door, you might have to take a job you don’t want. She reflected on her days of working as Natalie McGinniss (left) and Jessica Jones (center) receive a certificate of appreciation from Natasha Slaughter (Director, College Relations, SHRM Jacksonville, right). Later, tour participants had the opportunity to ask questions to a business panel of key Jaguars employees, including Tracey Evans (Director, Events), David Altman (Manager, Premium Seating & Suites), Cassie Sadowitz (Deputy General Counsel), Genya Adesso (Director, Marketing), and Debye Whelchel (Controller).
