An Update from
the President
New year, new member guide
The new year brings a new look to the MPT Program Guide.
Why the change? Two simple reasons: Members want a
monthly guide that’s more user-friendly, combining the
elements of a magazine (interesting features, photos, and
behind-the-scenes information) with the advantages of
a cleaner program line-up so they can easily spot their
favorite shows.
And I have to confess, we had a second reason: economy.
The new guide is less costly, and that simply means we
can stretch your contribution farther at a time when
MPT faces rising costs in making, acquiring and
broadcasting programs.
More satisfied readers, dollar savings at MPT. A good
combination to start the new year. We hope you are
pleased with the results. Happy reading!
Sincerely,
Larry D. Unger

Through it all
you’ve embraced
the journey of
the Crawley family.
N
ow, change is in the air. The Great War is over, but
all is not peaceful at Downton Abbey. Wrenching social
changes, romantic intrigues, and personal crises grip the
majestic estate for a third thrilling season.
As guests descend on Downton Abbey for Matthew
and Mary’s wedding, disasters large and small threaten,
including Cora’s very American mother who locks horns
with Lady Violet. While Mary’s youngest sister, Sybil, has
eloped to Ireland and is now expecting, her sister Edith
and Sir Anthony face their own fateful moment.
And new faces try to fit into the tight-knit circle of
servants. Downton’s impeccable butler, Carson, breaks
in a new footman, who happens to be the nephew of
the scheming lady’s maid O’Brien. And a mysterious
conspiracy continues to keep Anna and Bates apart.
In this changing landscape, can anything be assured?
See what storms loom ahead for the war-weary Crawleys
as they endeavor to safeguard their beloved Downton.

The eruption of Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull volcano in 2010 turned much of the northern hemisphere into
an ash-strewn no-fly zone. Now Katla, an Icelandic volcano 10 times bigger, has begun to grumble.
And two more giants, Hekla and Laki, could erupt without warning. Is Iceland a ticking time bomb? As
NOVA takes us inside these geological monsters, we meet atmospheric scientists who are working to
understand just how devastating an eruption could be.
