KOKUA I NA KULA 2016 COMMUNITY SERVICE INFORMATION The Food Basket will hold a canned food drive. Each canned food item donated by September 20, 2016 will earn the school one (1) Kokua i Na Kula point. • The Food Basket will provide donation guidelines upon request. • Students and/or schools to drop off canned foods at The Food Basket. • Students must include completed information form (Name, School, Grade, Kokua i Na Kula #, Date and Contribution) with donation. • Please contact: Jo Ann Abiley via email ([email protected]) or phone (808) 933-6030 with any questions about canned food donations. The Hawaii Island Humane Society will hold a pet supply drive for towels, treats and toys as well as individual volunteer opportunities. Each pet supply donated September 20, 2016 will earn the school one (1) Kokua i Na Kula point and each volunteer hour donated will receive five (5) Kokua i Na Kula points. •Students must include completed information form (Name, School, Grade, Kokua i Na Kula #, Date and Contribution) with donation or upon volunteering. •To volunteer, students under 16 must complete a 1-hour orientation course provided by the Hawaii Humane Society and be accompanied by a chaperone. • If students are unable to volunteer, they can receive a tour of the Hawaii Island Humane Society upon dropping off their donation and receive one additional Kokua i Na Kula point for their participation. • Locations include Kona, Keaau and Waimea. • Please contact: Bebe Ackerman via email ([email protected]) or phone (808) 217-0154 for more information on donations and volunteer requirements. Recycle Hawaii is pleased to partner in KTA's 2016 Kokua I Na Kula Community Service Project. We believe positive actions such as yours will increase awareness and reduce valuable resources going into our island's landfill. Here’s how our recycling program will work and the steps to follow: 1. Contact Recycle Hawaii that you would like to participate or for any questions. Send your school name, contact name, phone & email to Marsha Hee, RH Education Director, [email protected], 985-8725 or 969-2012 2. From August 10-September 20, 2016 collect foil lined wrappers (shiny Mylar) and aluminum juice pouches from the following products. Each acceptable empty, clean & dry wrapper or pouch will earn your school one (1) Kokua i Na Kula point. ACCEPTABLE ● Foil lined Snack Bag for chips, popcorn, pretzels of any brand (Terra, Fritos, Lays, Sun Chips, Pirate’s Booty etc) & any size (individual, family-size or multipack). ● Foil lined Energy, Granola, Protein Bar Wrapper of any brand (Clif, Luna, Quaker, Nature Valley etc) ● Aluminum Drink Pouches of any brand; straws and spouts are ok to keep in (NO drink boxes). NOT ACCEPTABLE NO Candy, Cookie, Chocolate wrappers/packaging NO foil lined wrapper or packaging from other products 3. Complete Community Service Informational Form or print clearly on a piece of paper: Contact Person first & last name, School, Grade, Kokua i Na Kula #, Date, Recycle Hawaii donation and Contribution Total # of wrappers/pouches. 4. Insert Form into box or bag of acceptable wrappers/pouches. Label each package TO: Recycle Hawaii FROM: Name of School, Contact Person/Phone & Date 5. a. Deliver to a KTA Super Store Customer Service representative by September 21-22, 2016. b. Email Marsha/Recycle Hawaii the date and which KTA store location drop off was made to. Upon receiving your items, Recycle Hawaii will report each school’s acceptable number of wrappers/ pouches to KTA for your bonus points. Then all items will be shipped to TerraCycle, a for-profit company based in Trenton, New Jersey for recycling or upcycling into products.
