Curriculum Overview – RB2P- Summer 1- Shakespeare
English




The first week back we will be
focusing on Shakespearean
rhyming couplets.
The aims will be;
To understand the form and
structure rhyming couplets.
To create a potion using rhyming
couplets.
Art & Design
 We will be focusing on play scripts,
taking a scene from one of
Shakespeare’s famous plays.
 The children will be developing their
performance, vocabulary and grammar
skills in order to create their own play
scripts and puppet theatres, using the
Talk4Writing scheme.
Computing
 We will continue to work on Scratch to
design algorithms in order to create
different games.
 The children will create Tudor houses.
 Tudor roses using a range of materials.
 Paint observational drawings, using a variety of brush
strokes and materials.
Design & Technology
 The children will design their own potions and
theme behind their potions linking it to the story
Macbeth.
 The will use a variety of skills in order to plan,
test and meet the objectives.
Mathematics
We will be focusing on money.
The children will;


Recognise and know the value of
different denominations of coins
and notes
To combine amounts of money to
make a particular value including
different combinations of coins
that equal the same amount of
money.


Solve simple problems in a
practical context involving
addition and subtraction of
money of the same unit,
including giving change.
Recognise and use symbols for
pounds (£) and pence (p).
Science- Forces and magnets
 We will:
 Compare how things move on different surfaces;
 Notice that some forces need contact between two
objects, but magnetic forces can act at distance;
 Observe how magnets attract or repel each other
and attract some materials and not others;
 Compare and group together a variety of everyday
materials on the basis of whether they are attracted
to a magnet, and identify some magnetic materials;
 Describe magnets as having two poles;
 Predict whether two magnets will attract or repel
each other, depending on which poles are facing.

Estimate and compare different
measures, including money.
 Calculate with money in pounds
and pence.
Music
 The children have regular singing
and brass instrument lessons on a
Tuesday morning. Learning how to
follow sheet music, playing notes and
identifying pitch and rhythm.
History
 We will:
 Discuss significant events and people from Britain,
within and beyond their living memory- Linking it to
Shakespeare and Tudor times.
 Discuss some significant historical events, people and
places in their own locality.
 Answer questions about the past using given sources.
 Describe the similarities and differences between life
during a time in the past and life today.
 Choose appropriate sources to answer questions about
specific people and events; going beyond simple
observations.
