Fences are permitted in accord with the regulations of the City of Webster Groves Fence Ordinance in Chapter 53.
Some sites have regulations for fences that are more restrictive as part of the conditions of a Conditional Use Permit
(CUP) or the ordinance governing a particular Planned Commercial District. Unless specifically exempted, no fence
shall be erected until a permit has been issued.

SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Completed Application for Fence Permit
2. Two (2) copies of a boundary survery (real property reports do not qualify as a boundary survey) with dimensions
showing the location of all property lines, structures, and the location and dimensions of the proposed fence.
3. Detailed description of the fence materials, height and type (e.g. sketch, brochure, photo, etc.)
4. $40.00 fee

1. All posts, cross members, and protruding bolts are to face the owner’s property.
2. No fence shall be closer than 12 inches to public sidewalk.
3. Fences are to be located entirely upon the private property of the person constructing or causing the
construction of the fence. City inspections should not be construed that the finished fence is correctly located
on private property.
4. Fences located in the front yard shall be decorative as indicated in the City-issued brochure titled,
“Approved Front Yard Fences.”
5. Additional regulations may apply per City Code Section 53.195.
