United Way Power of the Purse
A fun and fabulous evening giving
back to local women in need!
From silent auctions for designer purses
to great raffle prizes, guests will have the
opportunity to enjoy great fashion and a
night out. Proceeds benefit a women's
scholarship fund and backpack nutrition
programs for local children.
Mission
Inspire, enhance, and strengthen the lives of women and children by raising funds for education, income and health.

$30/person or $350 for Reserved Table of 10 (The Girlfriend Package)
Scholarships and Backpack Programs
With more than 500 attendees at a sold-out event, the 2014 Power of the Purse raised more than $55,000 to
benefit a women's scholarship fund and backpack nutrition programs for local children. Six scholarships and four
nutrition programs were funded by dollars raised by the 2014 Power of the Purse.
Backpack Programs
In central Illinois, 1 out of 5 children lives in a home struggling to put food on the table which leads to poor
health and grades. The Power of the Purse helps fund backpacks of nutritious snacks for local children.
"I don't have to worry about what I'll be eating over the weekend. My mom doesn't always have money to buy groceries. There are a
lot of us kids. At school, I get to eat breakfast and lunch, so I'm never worried about the week. I used to dread Fridays, which as a
teen, I should be excited for. Fridays always meant worrying about when I would get to eat next. When the Boys and Girls Clubs
started giving me a backpack, my weekends were great! Fridays turned into a stress-free day knowing that I would have plenty of food
for the weekend. My teachers say that my attitude and grades have improved." - Jarvis, Boys and Girls Clubs student
Scholarships for Women
Low-income women living in central Illinois (Peoria, Tazewell, Woodford, Marshall, Stark and Putnam counties)
pursuing job training, technical or vocational certification, or an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree are eligible to
apply for a Power of the Purse Scholarship.

The Power of the Purse event includes a silent auction, wine pulls and much more! In-kind donations
from individuals, businesses and organizations are critical to the Power of the Purse fundraising efforts.
SILENT AUCTION
With more than 100 purses from top designers such as Michael Kors, COACH, Kate Spade, Rebecca Minkoff, Cole
Haan, Fossil, Dooney and Bourke, Oryany and more, the Power of the Purse silent auction is a purse lover's dream.
The silent auction also includes shopping and services targeted towards women.

WINE PULL
The Power of the Purse Wine Pull is a fun way for guests to help United Way raise additional dollars at the event.
Donated wine (ranging in value) is wrapped and guests buy a ticket for a chance to win a great, or even better, bottle
of wine. If you have a great bottle of wine to donate, let us know!
