2015 MEMBER-MEMBER GOES EXTRA HOLES!
After two warm days of strenuous competition, handicap calculation, and the occasional hydration, the MemberMember came to a close on Saturday with the coolest and calmest of shots on the 17th hole. Playing tough throughout the playoffs, Carter Devol hit the shot of the tournament when it mattered most, sticking his tee shot on the
17th to about 5 feet. With the team of Dave Antoniuk and Bill Green hot on their heels, Carter Devol and Jason
Henson were able to finish the tournament and take home the victory after that stellar shot. The competition was
strong throughout the round robin format and playoffs. Congrats to all the winners! And thanks to everyone who
participated in the Member-Member, making it the marquee event of the year once again!

Rule 28 Ball Unplayable
By Jamie Komancheck, PGA Head Golf Professional
Colby had a very interesting couple of
weeks this past month. We headed to
DC to catch his Aunt Christie receiving
her Master’s degree from American
University. It was an awesome experience. Aunt Christie sang the national
anthem for the commencement and
an Astronaut, Kathryn Sullivan, was
the featured speaker. Colby was mesmerized hearing about the space shuttle and walking in space.
Following the ceremony Colby just had to
meet the Astronaut, which he did. Colby
inquired about an accelerated space program he could get into. Fast
forward…..one week later he was set for
his first space mission, a trip to the moon!
The Lunar Module, nicknamed Electricity,
made a soft landing on the moon’s surface.
The Astronaut asked Colby if he wanted to
get out and go for a walk. “A walk?
Ma’am, I brought my golf clubs with me, I
was hoping to play a few!” So out the
hatch he went and headed to the 1st tee.
The first hole is a Par 3 that measures 720
yards (plays 120 yards with Earth’s gravity.) Colby took extra club since it looked a
long ways away. He made a good swing
and sent the ball into orbit! It hung in
space for what seemed an eternity. The
extra club was not needed as the ball flew
over the green and ended up in a crater
(considered bunkers on the moon). Colby
blurted out, “Wait until I get back home
and tell them I hit my 9 iron 745 yards!”
After bounding up to the crater, he was
surprised to see his ball in the middle of a
very big and very deep footprint. “What in
the world?” Colby muttered. The
Astronaut gleefully chimed in, “Actually,
What out of the world would be more
appropriate. That must be Neil
Armstrong’s footprint from his first trip.
Maybe he should have used a Moonraker
and smoothed it out.” Colby was not
amused, “That may have been one small
step for man, but that is one giant footprint that ate my ball!” For the ruling, is
Colby entitled to free relief from the footprint in the crater?
Under Rule 28 Ball Unplayable, if the
unplayable ball is in a bunker, the player,
under penalty of one stroke, may replay
the shot from the original location (745
yards away), drop in the bunker behind
where the ball lay, keeping that point in
line with the flag (awesome American Flag,
a little rigid, but cool), or drop in the
bunker within two club-lengths where the
ball lay, no closer to the hole.
Colby elected to drop it within two clublengths in the bunker. It was a really cool
drop as the ball slowly floated down to the
ground and didn’t plug like it would have
on Earth. Colby bogeyed the hole, but
thoroughly enjoyed his out of this world
adventure. If he maintains his Curiosity I
guess it’s off to Mars next month!

THE SPIRAL GAME, BASIC VERSION
Looking for a way to spice up your practice putting this summer? Here is the
perfect game for you. The Spiral Game, Basic Version.
The goal of the Spiral Game is to sink all 5 putts in a row from varying
angles and distances. The rules are as follows: Position five balls in a
clockwise spiral around a hole, starting at two feet and ending at six
feet. Place the two-footer at a random clock position, say 3:00, the
three footer at 5:30, the four-footer at 8:00, the five-footer at 10:30, and
the six footer at 1:00. Try to sink all five putts in a row. If you miss a
putt, reposition all five balls, preferably around a different hole, starting
from a different clock-face position and in a counterclockwise spiral, and
start again. Keep track of the number of missed putts. To keep track
of your progress here are the rules for scoring the Spiral Game: Win
when you successfully sink all five putts in a row and the final score will
be the number of putts missed before winning.
The is a great game to focus on the most important putting distances
and involves the added pressure of having to start all over after a miss.
Happy putting!!

MONDAY, JUNE 8TH FROM 11:00am TO 2:0pm
SUNDAY, JUNE 28TH FROM 4:00pm TO 7:00pm
We believe it is vital to spend time where the game is
played, on the golf course. So often students try to
learn the entire game on the range only. Director of
Instruction, Brian Moose will take you out on the golf
course, where you will learn from situations that can’t
be taught on the range. The 3 hour lesson includes
meeting an hour before tee time to warm-up properly,
on-course instruction and follow-up suggestions. To
sign up for either of the playing lessons contact Brian
directly. Cost: $90 per session.

out of your practice time. During the supervised practice
session you will be taught the most effective ways to
improve your golf swing, you will also be taught how to
practice on the range to get the most out of your golf swing
while on the course and start to see lower scores! You will
also be shown the most effective ways to practice your
short game so when you get to the course you know how
to hit it close and make more putts. To sign up for either
of the Practice sessions you may do so using the Club

Benefits of Yoga for Golfers
PA G E 8
Yoga increases flexibility in the spine, hips, and shoulders, which are all necessary in a good swing. Yoga
increases strength in the core muscles and shoulder
muscles, allowing for longer stroke distances.
1. Flexibility: An open body is a vital key to a great
swing. Yoga can help create more flexibility right
where you need it; hips, chest, shoulders, ankles,
calves and back.
2. Strength: There is strong, then there is functionally strong. Yoga creates functional strength because
the whole body works together to support the poses.
Stephanie Macaluso
CERTIFIED YOGA INSTRUCTOR
BARRE INSTRUCTOR
3. Body Awareness: Through a regular yoga practice, you will gain information about how your muscles and bones work together, assisting in the mechanics and tempo of your
swing. One example is the X-Factor, (the ability to move the shoulders and hips
independently). Yoga not only allows golfers to deepen this twisting action, but
also to isolate muscle mechanics needed to improve this.
Weekly Monday morning yoga class @ 9:30am
4. Relaxation and Tension Release: Stress can often cause tight muscles and
mental tension, which can wreak havoc on your game. By linking breath to
movement, yoga can positively impact the mental and physical aspects of golf.
5. Breath Awareness: Most of us take tiny sips of breath and don’t realize one easy way to feel great is deep breathing. Try it…take 10
slow, long, deep inhales and exhales. You instantly feel calm and relaxed.
6. Balance: Balance and tempo are keys to a consistent golf swing. Yoga will help identify your dominant side and help you achieve balance and better consistency.
