Hurley, Chief of Chaplains for the United States Army. MG Hurley became the 24th Chief of Chaplains for United States Army in May, 2015. Born on October 23, 1961 in Boston, Massachusetts, he was commissioned 2LT in the Field Artillery after graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY on May 23, 1984. As a Field Artillery Officer, he began to discern a possible vocation to Roman Catholic Priesthood and resigned his commission in July of 1990. Chaplain Hurley returned to the Boston area to begin studies and formation for priesthood at St. John’s Seminary in Boston. In May 1995 Chaplain Hurley was ordained a Catholic Priest and served five years as a parish priest in the Boston Archdiocese. Chaplain Hurley rejoined the Active Duty Army Chaplain Corps on October 10, 2000. After completing the Army War College in June 2013, Chaplain Hurley was assigned as the Command Chaplain for United States Forces-Afghanistan. In April 2014 Chaplain Hurley began his current assignment as the Command Chaplain for the XVIIIth Airborne Corps based at Fort Bragg, NC. As the Chief of Chaplains, Chaplain Hurley leads the Army Chaplain Corps to provide religious support to the soldiers and families of the U.S. Army.
