Wentworth Institute of Technology is responsible for ensuring compliance with all federal and state laws regarding
verification of US Citizenship, Permanent Residency, and other Eligible Non-Citizens statuses for students attending or
planning to attend Wentworth and who are applying for federal financial aid. After you completed your FAFSA, your
Student Aid Report (SAR) may have indicated that you must submit proof of your citizenship status to the financial aid
office at the school.
In order to comply with the verification process students who have been selected for the verification process must complete
and sign the Document Checklist form and provide originals and unexpired documentation of their legal status within
thirty days (30) from date of notification to a school representative in the Student Service Center- Williston Hall. This
form is also available online at http://www.wit.edu/SSC/forms/index.html
We will accept a copy of your citizenship documentation for initial review of your financial aid. We will review your file
using the submitted document to award an estimated financial aid package. However, your financial aid will not be
disbursed to your student account until you present the original document in person. Note: Students who are out of state
or out of the country are not exempt from this requirement; you may present your original documents upon arrival on
campus.
Please note that Notice of Action letters are not acceptable forms of documentation and they do not provide evidence of
legal status in the United States, except in cases where the notice type is an approval of status notice.

Certificate, Certificate of Citizenship or Certificate of Naturalization.

Permanent Resident: Present the original Permanent Resident Card (Form I-551) or Form I-94, I-94A is acceptable
only if it has the following endorsement “Processed for I-551 Temporary Evidence of Lawful Admission for
Permanent Residence - Valid until (Date)
Employment Authorized.” The form will
have an A-Number annotated on it and is acceptable if the expiration date has not passed.

Asylee: Present form I-94 or I- 94A form with a stamp showing admission under Section 208 of the Immigration
and Nationality Act (INA). Asylees may also have the same travel documents described for refugees; this qualifies
as acceptable documentation.

Refugee: Form I-94 or I-94A annotated with a stamp showing admission under Section 207 of the Immigration
and Nationality Act (INA). You may also submit the old Refugee Travel Document (Form I-571) or the newer U.S.
Travel Document annotated with “Refugee Travel Document Form I-571.”Note: If you are a refugee or asylee
applying for permanent resident status, your I-94 must include the endorsement “209a (or 209b) pending.
Employment Authorized” during the period in which your application is being reviewed. Students with this form
of documentation are eligible for admission and federal student aid (as long as the I-94 has not expired.)

Paroled: Must provide evidence from Department of Homeland Security such as having filed a valid permanent
resident application and provide an Alien Registration Number. Under section 212 (d)(5) the documentation must
have a stamp indicating that the student has been paroled into the United States for at least one year, with a
date that has not expired.

Cuban-Haitian entrant as defined by Section 501(e) of the Refugee Education Assistance Act (REAA) of 1980:
Present form I-94 indicating that student has been classified as a “Cuban-Haitian Entrant”

Victims of Human Trafficking are entitled to the same benefits as refugees under the Victims of
Trafficking and Violence Protection Act (VTVPA). This status is certified by the U. S. Department of Health and
Human Services (HHS). Students must submit their certification or eligibility letter from the HHS and contact
the Office of Refugee Resettlement. The spouse, child or parent of a trafficking victim might be eligible for aid,
but will have a T-Visa (e.g., T-2 or T-3) which must be submitted to us along with the certification letter.

Battered Immigrants-Qualified Aliens: Provide a copy of DHS-USCIS I-797, Notice of Action form.
It must indicate that it is an approval notice for a self-petitioning spouse of a U.S. Citizen and that the petition has
been approved. If you are the child of an applicant your name must be listed on the approved petition.
I am aware that I need to provide proof of citizenship, original documents in person within 30 days before any federal
aid can be disbursed, and that if its determined that my documents are not acceptable and/or have expired or
revoked, I will not be eligible for federal financial aid.
