Placing SAP at the Core of Your
Digital Future
What if You Were Becoming Obsolete and
Didn’t Even Know?
Ballance is a New Zealand farmer-owned co-operative and was
the first organisation in New Zealand to go live with SAP S/4HANA
technology. Ballance’s CIO, Dave Scullin will share why he believes
companies can’t be smart going forward without a clear digital
strategy and why S/4HANA is a critical component of their strategy.
We are living in an age of unprecedented disruption. Once-lucrative
revenue models are under siege. Market structures and distribution
channels that have been stable for decades are crumbling before
our eyes.
Almost a year post go-live Ballance is executing on a technology
roadmap based on simplification and real-time. Get a real-life insight
into what Ballance has achieved and hear how key business
processes have become 75 percent quicker, freeing up their people
to be more productive. At the same time, Ballance has overcome
the challenges that come along with implementing a brand new
technology. Join this session and gain an appreciation of what it
takes to make the most out of S/4HANA in your own business.

Financials
Digital Transformation is a hot topic. But with any topic driving so
much attention, there are going to be must-answer questions
for businesses looking to stop talking and start doing. For
businesses, there are mega-trends in digital transformation that
need to be understood and acted upon as companies look to
stay current and stand out in an age of rapid change. In this
talk you will learn the biggest trends in digital transformation
from not only a technology standpoint, but connecting the
roles of people, culture and customers as they pertain to
technology investments.
The demise of brands such as Kodak, Borders and Blockbuster
leaves us with little doubt – shift is happening and no organisation
or business is immune.
In this fast-paced and compelling keynote presentation, audiences
discover: why most organisations and businesses don’t realise they
are becoming obsolete ‘til it’s almost too late; the four major shifts
that are causing brands and industries to become irrelevant and;
proven and practical strategies for staying ahead of the curve
and competition.

The business world is rapidly changing. The work environment is far
more complex. Leadership roles are more demanding than ever as
competition, technology, customer needs and staff expectations
are all changing at an exponential rate. Many leaders feel overloaded
with commitments at both work and home. They are frustrated with
politics, bureaucracy and constantly changing company priorities.
Their career progression has stalled and they’ve lost meaning in their
work. The pursuit of excellence in their personal life is all but forgotten.
In this presentation, Greg will outline six performance principles
that top executives use in their career and personal life to transform
themselves into a rare and valuable leader that gets results time
and again. The audience will learn how to see their career with clarity
allowing them to advance faster, increase their worth to the business,
and get back on track for long-term success.

SAP S/4HANA represents a massive simplification in Accounting,
bringing together into the heart of the new accounting solution
– the universal journal – transactional data that was previously
part of the General Ledger, Controlling, Asset Accounting and
Material Ledger. In this session we’ll look in more detail at the new
accounting model and its impact on planning and consolidation.
Now, SAP BPC optimised for SAP S/4HANA offers a single
planning model that covers the same reporting dimensions as
the universal journal, but allows you to plan either at the detailed
level (cost center, order, project, CO-PA characteristic) and
aggregate by company code and profit center, or plan at the
higher level and disaggregate. Join Janet to deep dive into
real-time planning and consolidation with S/4HANA.

Budgeting in the public sector has its own unique set of
requirements and they are driving the evolution of technology
available in the market today. Transparency, performance based
budgeting, decision packages and ranking, centralised and
decentralised budget formulation approaches, and flexible and
powerful personal expenditure projections are key features
demanded by policy makers, budget officers, and constituents.
Use of spreadsheets and commercial planning tools has failed
to provide the functionality and efficiencies that are needed in
these areas. The next generation solution is built specifically
for the public sector. In this session we will introduce you to
SAP Budgeting and Planning for Public Sector, the purpose built
application that will allow you to streamline your budgeting
process and optimise the allocation of your public resources.

Woodward’s BPC implementation is a part of our strategy to
integrate and standardise financial reporting and planning
across multiple sites and ERP systems. Over the last several
years, Woodward replaced legacy ERPs at two acquisition sites,
implemented SAP Financials at all sites, fixed assets at their US
sites, and BPC 10 NW for all sites. Needless to say, their finance
teams have undergone tremendous change. The goal with the
BPC implementation was to minimise the impact – giving a familiar
interface and intuitive tools and processes to use in planning
and reporting. Woordward struggled initially with performance,
but have been able to achieve huge performance improvements,

Will You Be Compliant? Beat the
IFRS15 Revenue for Customer
Compliance Deadline
Foodstuffs’ Seamless Migration to HANA
– An Evolutionary Tale to BW on HANA,
ECC on HANA & S/4 Finance
With an effective date of 1 January 2018, the global accounting
standard IFRS 15 (AABS15) for Revenue for Customer Reporting is
rapidly becoming a high priority for CFOs. Will your organisation
be ready? Will you be compliant and in a position to report on
revenue recognition quickly and accurately?
The rising costs of hardware to support their BWA solution
tempted Foodstuffs onto BW on HANA back in 2015. As business
benefits started to become realised, Foodstuffs then migrated
ECC onto HANA and upgraded their SAP Finance solution to
S/4 Finance during the course of 2016. Join this session to
understand what has been achieved and how you can upgrade
your current systems onto SAP’s latest offerings with minimal
disruption to the business.
In this session, learn how you can achieve an Integrated system,
and attain compliance without additional software layers. You will
hear how to achieve business success through Finance and IT
collaboration by using existing IT technology to meet important
financial compliance requirements, and provide the detail needed
for IFRS15 compliance to enable better financial reporting.

Upgrading to S/4HANA? But What About
Your Historical Custom Developments?
A Timeline to Success: Life After an
HCM Implementation
As the architect of an SAP add-on module built in SAP, upgrading
to S/4HANA is very alluring. The functionality is heavily integrated
to the legacy SAP Finance (FI) module, but S/4HANA makes a
giant leap forward, and away from much of the historical SAP FI
structure. I’ll take you through the considerations and challenges
we faced, to take advantage of S/4HANA and obtain SAP
certification of the add-on functionality.
In 2015 Nedbank transformed the organisation to SAP ERP.
This involved the replacement of some 60,000 rules which
govern ledger postings, take on of data sets and development
across Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, Real Estate, Accounts
Payable, Indirect Tax, Payroll and BW. With guidance from
business execution specialists they managed to Go Live on time,
in scope and below budget! This session will focus on the HCM
implementation of Cloud & on-premise functionality, with a special
focus on Master data setup to align with existing ECC functionality,
payroll implementation and auto clearing FI postings. This is all
about practical guidelines for successful implementation from
someone who has been there and done that!

not just “manage” others. What is the difference anyway? This
deep dive will include examples of big bottom line pay offs by
companies who see “building culture” as a priority.
In this session, the audience will learn: what great data

effective data management; how to organise for successful data
management; how to ensure business buy-in and accountability
and; how to tie data management benefits to business benefit.

After a recent restructure at Christchurch City Council, the IT

much less experienced staff.
Attend this session to learn how Ross turned a record low team
engagement score of 25% to a 75% high in less than a year.
Using what he learnt at Mastering SAP 2016 he translated a sports

Energy’s Foray Into the Digital Universe
SAP has recently released SAP HANA 2.0, express edition (HXE)
as a free download from SDN. HXE is a streamlined version of SAP
HANA aimed at providing developers and system administrators
with real “hands-on” HANA experience on their own laptop or PC.
Hear about how Contact recognised the need to move into
a more digital enabled SAP environment to support both their
external customers and internal users. This session will cover
how the Digital Roadmap was brought to life by implementing
SAP’s Multichannel Foundation for Utilities, (website and mobile
app); transitioning from WebServices to the modern lightweight
REST based on Data Services; utilising the SAPUI5 toolkit; Fiori
apps for sales facing employees and personas for shop floor
transactional users.
Gary and Graham will share their “warts-n-all” experiences of the
various installation options and use of development tools. They

The Australia Post Integration Survivor
Guide in the Sea of API
How Linfox Used Design Thinking to
Reimagine User Experience
API is the current Integration buzz word. Is this the doom of
middleware like SAP PO/PI? What role will SAP PO/PI play? In this
session, you will hear how Australia Post positions its Integration
technology to get the best out of their investment. Learn how Post
aligned their SAP integration strategy to new industry standards
and how you can easily adopt their strategy and patterns of
SAP integration. Get insight into understanding the needs of the
business as well as the customer, and how you should determine
the integration needs. You will learn when and where to use current
integration technology and what can be used from HANA Cloud
Platform to complement existing landscapes.
Linfox used SAP’s Design Thinking methodology to re-imagine
what IT systems’ user experience can be like. After struggling
with casual users trying to use SAP to its fullest extent and
walking away frustrated, Linfox reset the way it was to design
solutions with the customer in mind. Linfox adopted SAP’s Design
Thinking approach and obtained immediate results in productivity
gains, user adoption and a decrease in user errors and training
costs. This presentation will detail: Linfox’s decision to use Design

Cloud solutions offer many benefits to SAP customers, however the

With SAP support for on-premise payroll finishing in 2025, it is a
decision most organisations will face within the next few years.

succession planning, and learning to the cloud, and integrated
the solutions successfully with the core HR on-premise system.

Building HR’s Value Proposition Through
Effective Collaboration & Communication
Although the NZDF already had an in-house system that
managed basic HR administration, there were no automated
workflow rules and there were a number of manual processes
that were in place. There was however, a team in place that
managed bulk entries of pay and personnel data.
Businesses everywhere are demanding more value from their
HR capability and HR Leaders are under increasing pressure. But
a reliance on the latest HR technology alone may not be enough
to drive a better connection to the business strategy.
With Executive support behind them, NZDF were able to introduce
SAP HCM – a solution which gave managers wider access to HR
information for their units. In just four short years 96% of all NZDF HR
transactions are completed using ESS and MSS. This is despite over
60% of members not having regular access to the NZDF’s intranet.
You will also hear how education briefing sessions are key during

training tools that continue to evolve.

into the traditional shift planning of HR processes. The solution
built in close collaboration with a global automotive supplier
extends classical SAP HR based shift planning processes with
the capability to involve employees directly and ad-hoc in the
planning process in case of workload peaks. We will share best
practices on how to deliver a delightful user experience, provide
insights on SAP’s innovation lifecycle from idea to product and

Pacific Coast Building Products’ Journey
to the Cloud Using SAP SuccessFactors’
Rapid Deployment Solutions
Optimising Mobile Capabilities in a ProjectBased Workforce, to Learn On-the-Go, and
Frequently Adapt to New Teams
For Pacific Coast Building Projects (PCBP), the decision to move
to the cloud for Human Capital Management was inevitable.
In this era of hyper-connectivity, employees want the ability to
do everything at the touch of a button. As work environments
become more and more flexible, the need for the ability to perform
HR and Payroll functions on the go has never been greater.
Amazingly, PCBP completed the Employee Central implementation
and integration with SAP ERP in only 7 months, converting Core
HR business processes as well as Organisation Management
processes to the Success Factors solution. PCBP achieved
success by utilising the preconfigured Rapid Deployment Solution
to accelerate the configuration periods and by using Business
Rules to help fill the gaps in functionality not provided in the RDS.
Following PCBP’s journey to the cloud, attendees will hear about
the importance of extending testing cycles to include end user
community to gauge understanding of end-to-end process, as well
as how specific data is used in payroll, timekeeping, or benefits
processes in ERP to aid in assuring data integrity.
