Fundamentals of religions are different!
b.
c.
d.
The Qur’an says salvation is not
guaranteed. It might be obtained by
submitting one’s self to Allah, having
good deeds that outweigh the bad ones.
Hinduism’s ultimate goal is to be
obtained by achieving a certain state of
consciousness in which one realizes his
or her identity with God.
Buddhism claims that salvation is
achievable to those eliminate all desires,
even the desire to live.
Therefore, when it comes to the basic and
most fundamental issues such as the nature
of God, the person of Jesus Christ, the
meaning of salvation and the means to
salvation, the different world’s religions
contain many contradictory teachings.
Don’t all religions basically teach the
same thing? Obviously NO!

“A Question on Religious
Pluralism”
1. The religions of the world are vastly
different and contradictory on many
key issues and core teachings. For
example:
Don’t all religions
basically teach the
same thing?
Unfortunately in a post-modern era
dominated by relativism, where your truth,
his or her truth or anybody’s truth is
considered all well, many have had this
popular belief that all religions lead to the
same thing. The answer, however, is NO. It is
very simple to support this answer as one
looks at the claims of the different religions.
Here are some reasons that religious
pluralism is false:
When it comes to the nature of God,
Islam, Christianity and Judaism teach
that God is the transcendent creator of
the world and thus is distinct and
separate from his creation. On the other
hand, Hinduism teaches that God and
the physical universe are one and the
same. Other religions teach that God is a
he, some say a she, some say an it.
Mormonism, Shinto and different tribal
religions teach that there are multiple
gods. Moreover, the New Age Movement
and Christian Science claim that we are
God.
2. When it comes to the person of Jesus
Christ, Islam, Judaism and
Christianity are NOT in accord.
a. Islam adherents claim Jesus to be
simply a mortal man and a prophet.
b. Judaism adherents believe he was a
teacher, a rabbi, with eccentric and
blasphemous teachings. Others in
Judaism consider him a good teacher of
morality but definitely not the awaited
Messiah.
c. Christianity proclaims that Jesus is the
Son of God, He is God incarnate and
Saviour of the world and that He is the
Messiah spoke of in the Old Testament.
d. How can these three religions basically
teach the same thing if they disagree on
the answer of the most fundamental
question “Who is Jesus of Nazareth?”
Acts 4:12
3. Different religions view fundamental
concepts, such as salvation very
differently:
a. Judaism, Islam and Christianity teach
that salvation means eternal life in
heaven.
b. In Buddhism, salvation means
everlasting life on earth.
c. The goal of Hindus is to break free from
the cycle of life, death and reincarnation
and have their individual personality
annihilated by becoming absorbed into
Brahman.
4. Different religions provide opposing
ways of obtaining salvation:
a.
The Bible teaches that salvation is
offered as a free gift given by the grace
of God to those who believe in Jesus
Christ, have good deeds in accordance
to their faith, are baptized and partake
of the sacraments (e.g. communion,
repentance and confession)
