WESMAR Selected
For Three New
Circle Line Ferries
WESMAR’s heavy duty stainless steel
Bow Thrusters have been selected for
three new 165-foot, 600-passenger
excursion and sightseeing ferries
operated by Circle Line Cruises, the
world famous New York City sightseeing
company.
Circle Line Cruises made the
announcement in January as part of
its 70th Anniversary celebration. They
currently operate a dozen boats in New
York Harbor and move more people
in the city than anyone else, including
thousands of school children and
visitors from all around the world. Circle

Circle Lines Chooses WESMAR for new Passenger Ferries
in Somerset, MA to build the three
new vessels, the first of which will be
delivered in Spring 2016.
Peter Duclos, President of the
prestigious Gladding–Hearn Shipbuilding
Company, calls the Circle Line Tours
“America’s Boat Ride,” known around
the world for their professional ride
and their on-board narrators who are
celebrated for the information they
convey.
The new ships will each have
WESMAR’s 125 HP Model V2-20 rugged
stainless steel dual prop counter rotating
thrusters.
“Circle Line vessels dock on the
Hudson side of New York Harbor, where
they navigate heavy marine traffic and
cross winds. The task of holding tight to
load and unload 600 passengers is critical
to safety and to comfort, so the WESMAR
bow thrusters are an important part of the
design,” said Peter Duclos. “These new
boats will travel at 15 to 16 knots and trips
will generally be 2-3 hours.”
The new vessels (Hulls 414, 415, and 416)
are sister ships to the earlier ones built
by Gladding- Hearn, (also equipped with
WESMAR’s) yet they are taller because of
an additional deck.
They were designed by Naval
Architectural firm DeJong & Lebet,
Jacksonville, Florida. The goal was to keep
everything the same as the earlier very
successful boats from Gladding-Hearn,
while adding an additional deck adapting
WESMAR On Display at
Shows Around the World
January and February are filled with boat shows that WESMAR and
its dealers attend. This is valuable exposure for WESMAR. Upper right

to any new Coast Guard Regulations.
Passenger comfort and enjoyment
were priorities. Windows will be larger,
dual pane to avoid condensation, the
same with the roof windows. The Air
Conditioning system is first class, and
the Sound System, which supports the
narrators, will be the best.
WESMAR’s powerful all stainless steel
bow thrusters have been popular for
passenger and excursion ferries around
the world because of their counter
rotating dual prop design which produces
a high degree of thrust. In addition to
the Circle Line Ferries, passenger and car
ferries throughout the US and in Puerto
Rico, Australia, Canada and Oman use
WESMAR.

WESMAR Bow Thruster part of the extensive
overhaul of the F/V Seeker
The front page of WESTERN Maritime, Inc. reports
the vessel, owned by Jim Seavers of Sea Systems, the
Trawler was widened by 10 feet, adding significantly
to the fish holds, fresh water and fuel capacities.
The work was done at Giddings Boat Works, Inc. in
Charleston, Oregon. The widening included nearly
2000 more cubic feet of fish hold, more than double
the fresh water capacity, and nearly 22,000 gallon
capacity increase. The shelter decks were extended
with heavy framing added for support of the trawl
winches, new bulk heads were installed on the main
deck to create water tight foc’sle spaces port and
starboard. New refrigeration equipment was added
along with new stainless sumps and a renewal of much of the circulation piping.
A 7-foot bulbous bow was installed along with a robust WESMAR all stainless dual prop counter rotating 150 HP
hydraulic bow thruster. A larger generator was installed along with a new electrical panel and new wiring. Many of the
updates were anticipated in the rules of upcoming mandatory Coast Guard inspections.
Florida Charter Boat Owner says WESMAR Bow Thruster has
the power to keep their boat safe and their customers happy.
“The WESMAR thruster turns the boat on a dime,” says Wylie Sacks of Pembroke Pines, Florida, who with his son, ‘Vinnie,’ a
100-ton licensed captain, operates a charter boat out of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. They installed a WESMAR Model V2-10m 13 hp
thruster on their 43-foot Torres the YB NORMAL .
“Our customers fish for tuna, dolphin, kingfish, swordfish, tilefish, and more,” said Captain Sacks.
“This is a heavy, 20-ton boat with a 16-foot beam, so
we use the WESMAR thruster for docking, anchoring,
and maneuvering in and around other boats in high winds
and heavy currents. It has a lot of power. When we hit it, I
can almost surf off the wake.
“We fish in the ocean, where we face 20-knot winds at
times, which makes the thruster so important. Without
it, it is very difficult to dock in windy conditions.
“We deal with a lot of currents; our customers are
frequently at hotels on the water, which requires
maneuvering in and around other boats, usually in very
tight situations, to pick them up. Having the bow thruster
is protection for avoiding hitting other boats as well as providing safety for our customers.”
“The WESMAR thruster is wonderful for holding position, particularly when we travel the intercoastal and when we are in and
out of Port Everglades, often in heavy current to pick up customers.

“We were very pleased with the work YEP did to install the thruster and for their
exceptional customer service.”
The YB NORMAL has accommodations for 6 people. The wide beam easily
accommodates numerous anglers and guests, has abundant storage for rods and
