E-ONE - PARTNERS IN EDUCATION
ZAXBY’S - PARTNERS IN EDUCATION
MARCH 2015
FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Dear Forest Parents,
The year is more than half over and Spring Break (March 30 – April 3) is near. The FSA (Florida
Standards Assessment) is also around the corner and our students and teachers have been
working extremely hard to prepare for this assessment. Our freshman and sophomores will
take the writing portion of the FSA the week of March 2nd. The window for the FSA Reading
portion will begin April 13th. Please discuss with your student the importance of taking our
standardized testing seriously as it can affect course selection for next year, and is also a
graduation requirement.
We continue to hold high expectations for our students in the areas of academic achievement,
attendance, and behavior at Forest High School. These expectations can only be achieved if
students are in school as much as possible. As we near the end of the year, the demands of
the FSA, End of Course Exams, Advanced Placement and Industry Certification testing make it
critical for students to be in class. Thank you for encouraging your student to attend school
every day!
Please mark your calendar for these key events in March. We will have an Early Release day
on March 18th. Our next SAC meeting will be held March 16th. The end of the 3rd grading
period is March 20th and March 27th is a teacher work day. Spring Break will take place the
week of March 30 – April 3.
Thank you for the many ways you support Forest High School.
Brent Carson, Principal
http://foresthigh.org
WAY OF THE WILDCAT
This year, Forest High School faculty is teaming up to
teach our students the “Way of the Wildcat.” By now,
you are perhaps asking yourself, “…what is this Way of
the Wildcat?” Be Prepared, Be Respectful, and Be on
Time…the Way of the Wildcat is our philosophy, our
behavioral expectations. Each student at FHS this year
will learn what each expectation means and how it
applies to specific settings around campus (the
classroom, during class changes, and the cafeteria). The
Way of the Wildcat will be our way to help ensure your
student’s successful school year. Stay tuned.
BOOKKEEPER’S NOTES

Check acceptance Policy:
Marion County Public Schools
Where Every Child Can Learn
Your check is welcome at all schools in the Marion County Public Schools . The Marion County
Public Schools recognizes that occasionally a parent may inadvertently overdraw a checking account
and a check may be returned by your bank. In order to recover these funds in a private and professional
manner, the Marion County Public Schools has contracted with CHECKredi of Alabama, a company
based in Huntsville, Al. for collection of returned checks.
Each person writing a check to a school or the School System should write the check on a commercially
printed check with your name, address and one phone number. Counter or starter checks will not be
accepted. When a person writes a check to a school or the School System, the person writing the check
agrees that, if the check is returned, that it may be represented electronically on the same account, and
that the fee established by law, may be debited from the same account.
If the check and fee are not collected electronically, then CHECKredi will contact you by mail and by
telephone in order for you to make arrangements to pay. Payments may be made to CHECKredi by
mailing to 4925 Sparkman Drive or to P.O. Box 3829 Huntsville, AL 35810. Payments of the check and fee
may be made electronically at www.checkredi.com by using a credit card, debit card, or electronic check
without additional fee. For a convenience fee, payments may be made over the telephone by credit or
debit card or electronic check by calling toll free (877) 524-7334.
CLINIC NEWS
GUIDANCE
We could use donations of peanut butter crackers for
the clinic. Sometimes students have low blood sugar or
haven’t eaten much and need a little something extra.
The clinic has been buying these crackers and this type
of small snack donations would be greatly appreciated.
TUTORING
The National Honor Society offers free tutoring that is
available to all FHS students in Mrs. Crawford’s
classroom in B-256 on Wednesday’s from 3-4pm and
Thursday’s from 8-8:45am.
STUDENT PARKING STICKERS
Student parking stickers are on sale in the attendance
office. Senior reserved spaces will be sold ONLY from
Mrs. Merians in room B-162. Any student parking
without a current year sticker will receive a referral.

information and resources available on the Florida
Standards Assessments portal
(ww.FSAssessments.org) and the FDOE website
(www.fldoe.org). More resources will be made available
throughout the 2014–2015 school year, so parents and
students should check these websites regularly for
updates.
www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org – this website is for
all seniors that are interested in receiving Florida Bright
Futures for College. This application process will begin
January 1, 2015.

Any student who attended Districts is eligible to attend
State. The $160 deposit is due by January 7th.
Congratulations to Dominique Yarbrough who was the
Volunteer of the Month at the Ocala Civic Theatre. And,
a huge shout-out goes out to one of our Theatre Alumni
Deion Howard for being cast in OCT’s production of
“Sleuth.”
Reminder: the FHS library takes donations of books and
magazines year round. The magazines should be
appropriate for high school students. Books can be for
all ages. What we cannot keep, we donate to other
organizations. The only books we do not take are
Readers Digests, textbooks, and encyclopedias. Just
drop them off at the front desk and let the receptionist
know they are for the library.
Do you have holiday or seasonal decorations you would
like to donate rather than throw out? The FHS library
would love to have them (any holiday or any seasonal
decorations). Just drop them off to our front desk and
let the receptionist know they are for the library.
The FHS book club is looking for businesses that want to
either be a sponsor of the first Young People's Comic
Con or who want to set up a booth. Those that want to
set up booths must have products or a business that
revolves around children and teens. Please call FHS at
671-4700 and ask to speak with Ms. Pohlers or email
Ms. Pohlers at [email protected].
The FHS book club is looking for face painters for the
comic con. If you or you know someone that may be
interested, please contact Ms. Pohlers at FHS.
Any students wanting to set up collections that have a
theme that would be appropriate for a comic con
should see Ms. Pohlers. Students can share their
collection and/or try to sell items.
Our author visit (Matt de la Pena) is rapidly coming up,
March 17th. Reminder the library is holding a poetry
and art contest in his honor. The deadline has been
extended to March 12th. Reminder you can win a $50,
$25, and $10 gift card. You still have plenty of time to
read one of this books.
