ARABLE
Bagthorpe, near Kings Lynn- ARABLE- Apprentice required for a family run mixed farm.
1000 acres of farmland - 500 organic and 500 conventional. They grow a wide range of high
value veg crops, cereals and sugar beet, grass and clover for grazing, cows and pigs. They
are the largest organic onion producer. Long term prospects. Duties include spraying,
spreading ploughing, drilling, irrigation, grading, washing, packing and picking of veg crops,
fencing for livestock. There would be a generalist start so that the apprentice could be fully

the ability to work as part of a team and a passion for arable farming are all essential for this

Stoke Ferry, near Downham Market – ARABLE -Apprentice is required for a European
potato business with a Norfolk site near to Downham Market. The role will involve seeing all
aspects of the production system and would ideally involve some time spent at the different
sites to gain a wider knowledge of the industry.
An interest in agriculture is essential but training will be provided to build on that interest so
school leavers and new entrants will be considered.

This apprenticeship is unique in that you will first learn the fundamental elements of the
administrative business including financial, operation and sales support, whilst at the same
time you will also be acquiring and developing your IT support skills. This will give you a very
good overview of business admin operations, for which you can then make choices for your
future career path.
Within this role you will need to balance full-time paid employment whilst also undertaking a
nationally recognised qualification in Business and Administration, therefore you will need to
be flexible with your time and committed to both your employment and studies.
This apprenticeship will last up to 18 months and could lead onto further employment within
the company once you have completed your course.
As an individual you will need a keen interest in administration and IT, which you must

required to help maintain and develop the gardens, seasonal flower and foliage
production, harvesting and cutting flowers to eventually work alongside the proprietor

The business takes on voluntary labour from around the World so the apprentice will
be asked to work alongside these workers and eventually supervise and train future
apprentices.
Initially the business can only support someone for 16 hours/week and some
experience in business/marketing would be beneficial but the main requirement is to

Overnight accommodation may be available and there is a basic bus service

This apprenticeship will last up to 20 months and could lead on to further employment within

Duties will include using a hosepipe to water plants, as well as being trained and
guided in the use of sprinkler irrigation systems.
Daily crop monitoring to assess for crop watering needs as well as checking crops for
pests and diseases, including weeds. At certain times of the year plants are
propagated under polythene and will need checking carefully.
Plants will require specific treatments at times which will necessitate both the need to
apply chemical sprays (individuals will receive on-the-job training as well as external
training and testing) and the introduction of biological control insects.
Always keep the area you are responsible for clean and tidy.

Duties will include learning the fundamental elements of the business and industry including growing,
despatch and quality control before using and applying these newly acquired skills

 Working within various operational departments on the nursery. These include
growing, despatch, goods in, cuttings, picking, and pesticides and whilst working for
these departments you will undertake the usual roles in each, so that you learn the
fundamental basics of horticulture. Using these newly learnt skills you will then move

 The final months of your apprenticeship will be based within our fast paced sales
team. Here you will deal with our customers, selling to them and assisting with their
requirements via email, phone and in person. There will also be opportunities for you

 During the early months of your apprenticeship you will be gaining an understanding

Little Melton, Norfolk (at various sites across Norfolk) x 4- PIG
APPRENTICESHIP Apprentices required for a progressive integrated pig company with
sites in the area of Swaffham, Watton, Dereham, Fakenham Thetford and Attleborough. The
ideal apprentices will be motivated and keen to learn about the pig production industry. They
will be expected to gain experience by working on both indoor, outdoor breeding production
systems and finishing units.
Additional training will be provided on top of the apprenticeship scheme and there are
genuine opportunities for progression in the company. Further training programmes will be
available to enable progression in the company structure after the apprenticeship is
completed. We currently have a large number of staff who have benefitted from this ongoing
programme.
Pentney, near Swaffham – LIVESTOCK - Apprentice required for a 100 acre farm with
expanding free range broiler chicken unit (up to 30 000 birds), 30 beef sucklers, small sheep
flock, maize and grass. The business also has a busy B&B and tea rooms. The role will
primarily be to support the livestock enterprises and assist to take the business forward.
New entrants or an experienced person will be equally considered. A willingness to learn
and work with the owners is important’.
Itteringham, near Aylsham, Norfolk – POULTRY - Two apprentices required for a
poultry business. Would suit school leaver as training will be provided. Apprentice would
ideally work 32 hour/week based over 4 days.

seeks an apprentice to assist with talking to the clients, animal husbandry tasks,
loading/unloading of animals for events, mucking out, paddock work, estate maintenance,
fencing, ground works and associated tasks. It is a seasonal business with most of the visits
being from February to October so hours will reflect this. Livestock consists of cattle, sheep,
pigs, horses, donkeys and guinea pigs. Travel will be across the Midlands and East Anglia
but the candidate should be able to start from Bedfordshire on a daily basis. A summer cabin
could be made available for accommodation if required’.

The cows are Pedigree Holstein and the farm is involved with showing them on a regular
basis. The ideal candidate will be keen, bright and willing to learn new skills. The position is
Monday - Fridays and a static caravan is available if required’.

1400 pigs is looking for a competent but caring and honest apprentice. The ideal candidate
will have a keen interest in sheep but training will be provided where experience is lacking. It
is a remote location so accommodation could be found’.

with a 1,800 indoor fattening pig unit and a 22,000 free range layer unit. The
apprentice will be required to work on both units and have some experience with
driving’.
Beaminster, Dorset – LIVESTOCK - ‘An apprentice is sought for a 243 acre
pasture based dairy farm with 230 cows. The owner is keen for this to be a long term
position and a positive attitude to farming, particularly the dairy industry, is required.
The farm has spring block calving (Feb - April) so may be able to take additional
people for a short term period as well’.
MIIXED
Otley, nr Ipswich – MIXED - ‘An apprentice is required for a mixed farm in Otley,
Suffolk. The farm is 650 acres with a pedigree Simmental herd (60 – 70 animals) and
an arable unit (wheat, barley and OSR). The cattle are taken to sales across the UK
including Stirling and Newark and the apprentice will be involved in preparing the
animals for this. A driving licence is required and some experience plus initiative
would be useful’.
