1. Fold a piece of paper into thirds and
then cut along the fold lines to produce
three strips (see photo on right).
2. Cut two squares from each strip by
folding the end over and cutting along the
edge. You will have a little strip of scrap
paper left over. Repeat for each strip (see
photos below).
3. You will end up with 6
squares folded into triangles.
Fold each triangle again, so that
it looks like the photo on the
right.
4. Cut the tip off each triangle
as shown in the photo on the
right.
5. Make 3 evenly spaced cuts
parallel to the first cut, but don’t
go all the way to the top edge.
Leave about 0.5 cm so that the
strips you cut are still attached, as
in the photo to the right.
6. Open up the square, it will look
like the picture on the right. The
strips which you will work with are
numbered in this picture, although
you wouldn’t normally write on
them.
7. Attach the point of strip 1 to the point
of strip 2. You can use glue, double sided tape or staples. I used a Bambi stapler, which is just right size for this size
of star.
Next, attach the point of strip 3 to the
point of strip 4. It should look like the
photo to the right.
8. Turn the paper over and attach the point of strip 5 to the point of strip 6
and the point of strip 7 to the point of strip 8 as shown in the photos below.
You have now completed one point of your star. Do exactly the same thing
to each of the remaining 5 squares..
9. Staple the ends of three star-points together. Repeat this with the other
three points then staple the two stapled ends together.
To complete the star, staple the taped outside edge of one point to the next
one and go round the star, doing the same thing 6 times to form a circle.
Attach a cord to an outside point, hang it up somewhere and enjoy it!
To make these stars you can use plain paper, printed paper, old calendar pages, wrapping paper or thin card.
The final size of your star depends on the size of square you use for your
points. With a bigger star you could make more cuts in the triangle to give a
more filigree effect.
If you use one sheet of thin white A4 card for each point you can make a
HUGE white star!
