Dementia Awareness Week

Dementia
Awareness Week
Confronting Dementia
Events from 16 – 22 May 2016
Music, dance, art and storytelling – there’s still
so much that we can enjoy together
#DAW2016
Dementia Awareness Week is a national event that is
held annually to raise awareness and reduce the stigma
of dementia. For someone living with dementia, their earliest
memories can be some of the most long-lasting – our
programme will take you on a journey to times past and
show how much we can all enjoy together. Whether it’s
the experience of trying something new – from singing in
a choir to creating a piece of art – or listening to live music,
watching a film or sharing stories, we can all benefit from
taking part. All the events are free to attend, and open to
everyone – you don’t need to book in advance, just turn
up on the day!
Vintage Tales Art Exhibition

Throughout the spring we have been running a series of art workshops in
venues across the borough, open to all including people living with dementia.
Drawing inspiration from vintage fashion, participants have worked with artist
Anna Alcock to bring their memories to life.
Come and see the fruits of their labour in this exhibition at Gnome House.
Some items of artwork will also be on display at Leytonstone Library.

dementia and the small ways you can help.
From telling people about Dementia Friends
to visiting someone you know living with
dementia, every action counts.

You can make a difference
Could you spare a little time each week to spend with someone
living with dementia?
Our residential and outreach services are looking for volunteers to share
their life experiences, skills
and company. Whatever your
interest, there’s sure to be
someone who would love
to share it. We can offer an
