Qualification for
waiters/waitress
• EQF level 4 according to proposal
• Qualification for restaurant management and food
• Modular system – the same units/modules in upper
secondary school and adult education.
• Units and learning outcomes in modules decided by national
authorities in consultation with social partners through the
national programme council
• New units (courses) may be suggested by social partners,
VET-providers and others.
Units
• Referred to as courses within a subject
• Learning outcomes defined for each unit as knowledge, skills
and ”the ability to”
• Each unit is appointed a set of credits depending on the
scope (not related to time!)
• Both ”basic” and ”advanced” units
• Teaching methods, where and how learning should take
place, etc is not defined
Different pathways
Upper secondary school
• 3-year programme, 16-20 year olds
• WBL: 15 weeks or as an apprentice (minimum 50 % WBL)
• National defined basic structure
Adult education – upper secondary level
• No specific structure or programme, ≥ 20 year olds
• Individual study plan
• WBL: no specific requisite

Assessment and validation
• The VET-provider is responsible for the assessment and
validation of each unit
• Assessment and validation methods are defined by VETproviders
• For each passed unit the learner receives credits and a
grade, registered in a transcript of records
• In adult education any unit could be achieved through nonformal or informal learning – followed by an assessment and
validation process.
Qualification requirements
• Attended modules (courses) covering 2500 or 2400 credits
• Pass grade in 2250 credits, including pass grade in Swedish ,
English, Maths, Diploma project and certain VET-units.
• There is no specific final examination and no overall mark for
the qualification
• The qualification may give access to further studies
