Teachers are currently wrapping up the last lessons of the first semester and preparing for finals next week. It has been a very good semester with many positive stories across all four grade levels. We continue to encourage MHS Students to exhibit the Hawk Habits of Responsibility, Perseverance, Adaptability, and Leadership. Encouraging your Student during Finals January 17, 18, and 19 are the dates for first semester finals. Information was sent home to parents regarding the schedule and expectations during the finals. However, I ask that you support your student in finishing the semester strong. Your student will have a final assessment of some sort for each class. I encourage you to ask your student to talk about their finals and their preparation for each one. Changing Classes at Semester Every year at semester, the Counseling Office receives many requests for changes in classes. Please know that with the growth in the number of students, the number of "open" spaces can be very limited in a number of courses. Schedule changes are not permitted in order to change teachers, change lunches or accommodate a different order of classes. We take into account changing academic needs as an allowable reason for a schedule change as well as other special circumstances as approved by administration. Message for Freshmen Parents Link Crew, the official Orientation Program, ends its weekly Wednesday program with the end of the semester. Starting on Wednesday, February 1st, all 9th graders will join the rest of the school in either having an Open Study Hall or a Closed Study Hall during the Wednesday PLC period (after 8th hour). Students who failed a course during 2nd quarter, or had more than 3 tardies during 2nd quarter, are placed in a Closed Study Hall for the full 3rd quarter. In this study hall, students are required to work on homework in a quiet setting and will have staff help to monitor their progress. For students with 3 or less tardies and no failing classes during 2nd quarter - they will be allowed to have an Open Study Hall where they choose to go to the library or Cafeteria to study, sit in approved halls with friends, or go to Gym Two. This is an incentive program and all students will have an opportunity to be in Open Study Hall 4th quarter, based on their performance during 3rd quarter. If you have questions about this program, please do not hesitate to contact me. Looking forward to an Awesome 2nd Semester! Go Red Hawks! J. Jeremiah Bilhorn Principal, Milton High School 114 W.
