*** Ramsey’s Waterford Chronicle has “Arabella” Dickson, daughter of Daniel Dickson,
Merchant of Limerick, marrying Richard Peppard, Printer, of Limerick on the 7th of October 1795.
This has to be a case of bad handwriting or transcription by a reporter.
The Waterford Herald had Isabella.

Peppard claimed admittance as a Freeman in 1826.

Betham shows Catherine married to a McAdam, in 1755, Elizabeth married to a Vokes and Mary
married to a Tuthill. Mary is not necessarily the Mary who married Richard Tuthill in 1776.
(Is Mr Dickson above really the Rev. Bassett Dickson and if so why is he not styled properly)
Mr Dickson will have to be more positively identified. Check Betham again.

The Dickson family of Croom Castle had a younger son, Dr. Dickson of Tory Hill/Knockdromassil,
whose daughter Mary became the second wife of Richard Tuthill who died on the 13 May 1800.
Mary was born in 1732 and married Richard on the 23 Dec. 1776 They had 6 children the first born
in 1774 and the sixth born in 1787. Mary died in October 1804 and was buried in Kilkeedy Parish.
Dr. Dickson must refer to the Rev. Bassett Dickson whose daughter Catherine married Philip
MacAdam. (If these dates are true then Mary married at the age of 44, had her first child by Tuthill 2
years before their marriage and was 55 when she had her last child.) There has to be a mistake in
Mary’s birth year. (Born 1752 would make more sense). (This statement should be compared with
the will Abstract above. Dr. Dickson has to be properly identified by his Christian name).

The 1815 Rates Book has Samuel Dickson at 59 Georges St. Limerick in a house valued at £100.

It was valued at £150 pounds and the Rates due were £8-18-11/2.

Limerick Archives. L/FR/PM/1/1/1. Rent roll for 1754/5.
The first name in the 1744/5 Rent Roll is one Thomas Dixon paying £1-10-0 for a house by West
Water Gate. His rent was 6 years in arrears. (The name on the rent roll would be the name that
appears on the original Lease so it cannot be assumed that Thomas Dixon is still alive. His heir
might be the actual tenant in residence.)
The Limerick Corporation Index of 1843, Item 111, has more detailed information on this man.
Thomas Dixon, a Skinner, got his 99 year lease on the 30th Sept. 1725. It was a stone house near
West Water Gate. Adjoining on the East was Hezakiah Holland’s house. On the West was the City
wall, On the North was the River Shannon and on the South was the lane leading to West Water
Gate. The same house had been previously leased in 1665 to Dermitius Coghlan, Rent Collector for
the Corporation. Item 113, on the same day Thomas also got a small plot nearby measuring 29 yards
in width and 54 yards in length for a rent of 10/- per annum. Some time between 1745 and 1749
Thomas Dixon died. A William Purdon held the lease next so it looks like Thomas had no heirs.
The 1843 Index, Item 54, records the granting of a lease for a piece of ground measuring 30 yards by
54 yards for 10/- per annum to a John Mundyn and a John Dixon on the 31 May 1692. The plot was
located outside West Watergate
Registry of Deeds.
No. 5526. This gives Andrew and John Dickson as Merchants in Irishtown in the year 1714.
No. 261607. Samuel Dixon of Ballysimon is mentioned in the year 1787. (See John son of Samuel of
Ballysimon in Freeman List above.)
