Quito’s colonial quarter, the largest and best preserved of South America, is a highly acclaimed UNESCO World Heritage Site; stroll through Independence Plaza, flanked by the Quito Metropolitan Cathedral, the Presiden=al Palace, the Municipal Building and the Archbishop's Palace. You will also visit the temple of La Compañía de Jesús and its beau9fully gilded interior. Your tour will con9nue on to the grand San Francisco Monastery. The Monastery’s impressive façade and atrium leads visitors to its Baroque interior, which is decorated with the winged Virgin of Quito at its main altar. AUer visi9ng all of Quito’s main historical sites you will con9nue to the Equatorial Monument, which is 16 miles north of Quito that marks the exact Middle of the World. At the world’s equator, you are at la9tude 0º and can stand with a foot on each hemisphere. Our visit to the equator includes a stroll through the Ethnographic Museum, which shows the different Na9ve American groups living in Ecuador across history.
