National Proclamation Day 19 20 16 Headlines… Volume , Issue 16 March 2016 As we head towards the liturgical season of Easter 2016, plans have been afoot for some time to tap into the current passion for commemoration to engage students and all members of the school community in an examination of life as lived at Mount Anville a hundred years ago. This will happen closer to the historic date of the Rising on 20 April. In preparation for this event, the History Department is ensuring that students are au fait with the background and 2nd Year students have taken the lead in a team teaching initiative to brief 1st Years. The expertise of the Society’s archivist has been engaged in the planning of an exhibition of photographs and documentary evidence designed to stir the inner historian in all. Running parallel with this, some 1st Year students will be recreating the flavour of the times in an exhibition of food and fashion while short plays will be performed to further bring the period to life. Modern interpretations of Mise Éire and the Proclamation of the Irish Republic, prepared by students, will be read at a school event on 20 April. In addition, there will be a reading of the winning entry of the Senior Debate on 1916, some ‘surprises’ and guest appearances.
