This name is chosen deliberately as all of the undertaken activities with children from various primary schools in Delft are characterised as fun, well guided, creative and pleasant. Children get together at the locations and join each other in workshops and playing or making homework together. Goal Offering professional and pleasant care to pre-schoolers. Creating a cosy and homey environment to children after school and during the holidays. Knotz’ pedagogical policy is focused on developing social skills and promoting independency and self-reliance. Enabling parents to work, study or be active in another social way. Mission Knotz’ mission is to provide professional and customeroriented childcare with a main focus on the child. Knotz is the ideal place for children to explore their world. Knotz sees itself as an educator and hereby supports the parents in coping with their children in a familiar and challenging environment. At Knotz children are playfully encouraged in 3 their development. The organization is aware of its social responsibility. Vision “Together with your child we will discover the world” We assume every child has an urge to develop himself or herself based on its own talent and temperament. We will guide the children in this process. All inclusive Prices of the afterschool care include: • Food and drinks until 7 PM • Personal guided transport (from school & free shuttle between locations) • Workshops • Holiday care from 7:30 AM 4 2. Pedagogical policy The company’s goal is to provide responsible childcare in a pleasant and healthy environment. Knotz Kinderopvang was inspired by the pedagogical visions of “Reggio Emilia”. The term inspired has been chosen very consciously as we chose to copy some parts of the vision instead of the entire vision. In addition, we create some of the parts ourselves based on experience. Through this manner both parents and teachers help develop our policy and have insight in the pedagogical policy of Knotz Kinderopvang. The following “Reggio Emilia” principles are followed within the KnotzClub: • Working within the imagination of the child • Taking children seriously • Listening to and watching the children • Creating a stimulating environment for the child A hundred languages Within the Reggio Emilia philosophy children are seen as born with potential and an incredible amount of capacities, power and creativity. Children are able to express themselves with “a hundred languages”. We hereby mean children are not limited to language, but also express themselves in other ways, such as through body language, music, exercise, dancing, clay, drawing, painting, sports and drama. The three pedagogues Within Reggio Emilia’s philosophy different levels of pedagogues are used to describe how children can learn from each other, adults (both parents and care takers at Knotz Kinderopvang) and their environment. Children are seen as the first pedagogue, because they can learn from each other. Children have to communicate, make plans together, discover each other’s thoughts and learn how to reflect on themselves and others. The adult is seen as the second pedagogue, because he or she connects to a child in a part of raising and so contributing to the 5 development of that child. The environment is seen as the third pedagogue, because children will progress more in an inspiring environment that makes it possible to try new things. Quality The quality of our childcare is maintained in various manners. All locations of Knotz meet the requirements set by the government, fire department and the Municipal Health Services (GGD). A safety and health check is done annually at all locations (also a check by the GGD). Work-instructions and rules can be set up or changed due to the results of these checks. Parents are able to inspect the results on location or on the website. Knotz is a recognised teaching institution and only works with certified staff members conform to the training-demands recorded in the collective labour agreement on day care. Interns are welcome and follow a guided learning-route. All the co-workers have passed a first-aid for children training. In addition, all caretakers get trained yearly on the subject of pedagogical knowledge. Supervisors are in possession of a university of applied sciences- or university degree of the required field of expertise. All employees have a certificate of good conduct. 6 3. About six children represent each location. Together with these children topics such as the house rules, activities within the carousel and toys to buy are discussed. The committee comes together about once per quarter. Every meeting notes are made and shared with the other children and their parents. Group structure At KnotzClub we work with vertical groups. Children of various ages are collected within the same group. A core group aged 4-8 years consists of a maximum of 20 children under supervision of two pedagogical employees. A core group of children aged 8-13 years consists of a maximum of 30 children under supervision of three employees (of which at least two are pedagogical certified). In case of unexpected situations children can be taken care of in a different group than usual. In case of holidays or planned leave groups may be merged. 9 Parents can swap or buy additional days on an occasional basis. In consultation with the (assistant) location manager the requested day can be scheduled. The aim is to place the child in its own core group. If this is not possible the child will be placed in another group. All of this will take place in consultation with the parents. Illness Sick children deserve extra attention; this is however not always an option at day care centres. When your child is ill and starts behaving differently we possibly call a parent for a consultation. A parent will only be called after discussing the situation with the (assistant) location manager. Further information about our illness policy can be found on our website www.knotz.nl. Holiday care During school holidays we offer day care at Kindercentrum Knotz from 7:30 AM until 7 PM. Children of KnotZport are collected at Kindercentrum Knotz during school holidays. Children of the Hugenoten are taken care of at their own location until 6:30 PM. Children can register for various activities in the holiday program that gets created every holiday. The program takes the age of the children, the number of children and the weather into account. 10 Holiday care means taking care of children during the approved holidays of schools in Delft (by the Municipality). You can bring your child(ren) at the same days as agreed on during regular weeks. It is also possible to extend the number of days by purchasing additional ones. You can request these days with your (assistant) location manager. Study days (for teachers – schools closed) During the school year schools plan study days for the teachers. On these days the KnotzClub is open and you can bring your child until 7:30 PM. These days are included in our price. As soon as the study days are known a program gets created and your children are more than welcome to join our KnotzClub.
