The Patriotic Fund: Various Fundraising
There were many methods used throughout the two cities to fundraise for the Patriotic
Fund. The theatres in both cities put on patriotic nights in aid of the Patriotic Fund. These nights
were often put on under the auspices of one of the public groups, especially the women’s groups
like the Women’s Canadian Club or the Daughters of the Empire group.1 There were also
patriotic balls and concerts where all proceeds were given to the Patriotic Fund.2 A baseball
game donated 25 cents from the cost of each ticket towards the women’s campaign for the
Patriotic Fund.3 There were also various campaigns throughout the war, like the badge making
that was done by the Women’s Canadian Club at the beginning of the war, to learn more about
these campaigns look for the essay on Other Fundraising.4
